Third day on Sertraline..

Posted , 9 users are following.

On Thursday I was prescribed 50mg of Sertraline (with 2mg of Diazepam for whenever my anxiety became very bad.)

Since I first took Setraline I've been experiencing lack of appetite, tremors, clenched jaw, palpitations (which are more than likely due to anxiety) lack of sleep and nausea.

Though the nausea could be due to not having eaten as whenever I see food I feel unwell.

Has anyone else had similar symtoms/when did you start to see these symptoms subside?

Yes what you are describing is typical side effects from sertraline, I had all the effects you are going through but they should go in the next week. Just try and force yourself to eat little and often, especially a banana and ginger biscuits as they help with the nausea, and get hydrated. It does get worse before it gets better but just hang in there x

I was going to try Zoloft because I had been prescribed it before the neurologist gave me Celexa for headaches. I think hit major depression/anxiety and started the Celexa. A week in and I thought I was going crazy my thoughts were worse than before and I could not settle. I then went off it and a few days later took Zoloft then my thoughts came back racing again. Is it the increased anxiety? Does that go away?

Hi yes heightened anxiety is very common and should get better as the weeks gon, I have been on 50mg nearly 5 weeks now and I still get it but not as bad as before, sertraline (Zoloft) takes a while to kick in but the side effects should go within 1-2 weeks although the anxiety might be there still but not as bad until it levels out. It can take 4-12 weeks to feel the benefits but just try and stay calm and keep occupied to get u through the anxious stages x

Thank you. My doc gave me a prescription for Paxil and it has helped a bunch with the anxiety but I know I would like to try again to get pregnant (2 miscarriages now depression) but am trying to get better first and know I can't take Paxil while pregnant. I also read it's awful to come off of so I would like to make the transition quickly. I have taken 5mg for 3 weeks and go back to my doc wed.

Do you mind if I ask what you were taking prior too? I've been on paxil 3 weeks and it's helped I'm not completely better but I was severely depressed and I guess I'm just scared to switch because I don't want to get worse like with Celexa. I know I want another child so I have to switch rolleyes

Day 6 and I'm feeling slightly better, still loss of appetite and clenched jaw but my tremors and palpitations seem to have gone for now.

Not sleeping great but that could be to do with other things, thanks everyone for your advice/experiences.

Glad to hear your starting to feel less of the side effects. Sleep disturbance is very common with sertraline, what time do u take your med as it might just be a case of changing the time that u take it?? I take mine just before I get into bed and I have had no problem with sleep. Keep updating your progress as it really helps the people that r just r starting their journey x

Hey Vikki, thanks for your reply!

I was taking it in the morning but I've just started taking it at about 2pm.

I think I might try taking it at night, see if it helps!

Been for my last appointment before baby due the 2nd and due to the palpitations he said he wants to up sertraline to 100 mg I refused he said your getting them coz you need more mg but I really think after 3 weeks Friday I couldn't cope with prolonging them getting in my system how mad I could cope if I was getting them with a brand new baby so going to let the 50mg settle 1st x
