This is herpes, isn’t it? :(

For the past couple of months I have noticed prickling and itchy sensations in my vulva around when my period is due. I'm currently having a flare up and I've looked properly for the first time and found this.

I haven't noticed them blister or anything. I have an appointment with the GP tomorrow as I cannot get an appointment at an STI clinic until June!

I've been in a 4 year committed relationship and although I know it can lay dormant for years, I'm dreading telling my partner.

yes, this looks like an outbreak.

Truthfully, you could have gotten this virus from your four year relationship. No one can tell you when or where you picked up this virus. Just be honest and educate yourself before you have the conversation because the truth of the matter is you probably both have it at this point. many couples who do both have it tend to stay together not because of the virus but because they love each other and see past it and they live completely normal lives it’s just a virus that causes a skin infection it’s not like other STI’s are STDs that cause death or infertility it is simply a skin infection that’s annoying and sometimes painful.

Yes it looks like herpes. I'm also happy you know it can be dormant for years. Your partner might have given it to you and not known he had it. Herpes is a skin issue and not really an STD since you can get it anywhere on your body. As long as you make sure your partner knows that it's not harmful in any way and because of the stigma around it, it harms your mental health more than anything else. It can just be uncomfortable at times but as long as you're healthy, it can go away in a couple days. After getting a swab, you can get medicine and then you're all good!
