This Is What Works For Me

Hi everyone, I wanted to quickly update this forum to let you guys know that my GA spots went COMPLETELY away when I was using clobetasol propionate cream. I had old ones from a year or more ago fade completely and I had new ones popping up all over and those are gone, too (thank goodness!).

It only took three days for them all to disappear with the cream but because I have mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) I was afraid to use the cream for too long as it has ingredients in it that have the potential to make my MCAS worse, not to mention the side effects.

These two conditions are definitely related. When my MCAS gets worse so does the GA and that's because mast cells dump out TNF (tumor necrosis factor) when they degranulate which is what causes these rings. Dr. Afrin, a well respected mast cell disease specialist, has a video presentation where he connects these two diseases (and many others). If you google "MCAS & Granuloma Annulare" you'll find my story and more information linking these two diseases.

For those of you who haven't tried the clobetasol propionate it may be worth a try! It really worked quickly!! I was so happy to see them disappear.

Good luck!!

I’m very happy this worked for you ... but it did NOT help me at all. I tried it two separate times, almost a year apart, with no improvement whatsoever. After 3 years I still continue to get new “spots.”  I did a round of steroids a few months ago which seemed to stop the spread. Unfortunately, as it turned out, I went to Florida shortly thereafter and the GA returned with a vengeance!  First time I’ve ever had sun and salt water affect my condition.  I may try the steroids again.

Glad that worked for you but has really had no real lasting effect on my generalized GA. I continue to refill it but think that is more as a security.

I too was prescribed Halebetasol propionate but it takes forever to go away. I imagine it’s the same MED as you. How long dies it typically take yours to go away with it? I’m going back to derm next week to see other options. Went through 3 different ferns who did biopsies then went to her and she walked in and said no biopsies you have GA. Great diagnostician!  Frustration! She never mentioned auto immune as I’ve read on here. She explained it as two cells merging together and gave no room but to pop up in skin. Ever hear it described like that?

I went through several bottles of this and it had no affect at all on my GA. However, I am having some success with ROM treatment. Glad yours is gone! What a blessing!!!
