This website has greatly helped me,I am an 18 year old female, i'm not overweight, i am active and healthy. last year I had never heard about this condition before, until i was rushed into hospital in November 2004 completely unable to walk or talk due to the poison running through my blood and the sheer size of the abscess.a week in hospital after emergency admission and surgery i was told that i had been given a secondary intention and it would be healed in a few months etc. It took a lot longer than anticipated for my wound to heal and the pain has been unbearable at times (it took over 5 months- with 7 infections needing antibiotic treatment- each stronger than the last. even though i had my dressings changed twice a day and was keeping it scrupulously clean the infections would not cease) i wouldnt wish this condition on anyone, mine has come back once but has been tackled with antibiotics and cream and being opened back up and cleaned with saline 3times a day, thankfully i didnt need surgery again that time. but now i have started back at work full time (fianlly!)i fear it is coming back again because i am sat down most of the day. there feels to be a lump forming and it is painful to sit on. i will continue to use this site as a resource for information regarding my condition and fingers crossed it won't cause me too many more problems!

    Hi

I am a 26 year old female who has been suffering for 13 years with this. I have open surgery next week so hopefully that will be the end of it! I'm not sure if you have come across the website www.pilonidal.org, it is an absolute god send of a site with loads and loads of information. There are many members who are very wised up on this condition and can offer great advice. Just thought you might want to look at it to get any further informationsmile

cheers, hope you are well soon

I am 18 and have had 4 operations on my pilonidal sinus! the first was in october 2004 and i was told by my gp i just had a bad back i then was rushed into hospital in agony and went into theatre i have recently 2months ago had another operation my forth and the dr and my district nurses who come and see me daily are disagreeing on what dressing should be used! the dr wants one thing but the nusr wont use it! i have a great bond with the nurses but feel that they should agree with the dr as everything else has been tried. The dr and my nurse at the hospital get on and they always tell me why they are doing things and what things are for so that i have a full knowledge of what is going on so i trust the 100% i just want it to hurry and heal so that i can get back to doing normal everyday things!

    Hope everyone is well soon
