Thoracic Rib Outlet - Reaccurance after surgey ??

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi all, just a quick question I was wondering if anyone can help on, I had surgery to remove both thoracic ribs from both arms, left arm in Sept 07 and right arm feb 08. After a very painful recovery I have been fine (except for the numbness). But, recently my left arm has started to hurt again ie- pins and needles if typing on computer / holdings a book or mobile & pain across my chest etc.

SO, my actual question is after surgery can it grow back ?? No one seems to know and I really don’t want to have to have surgery again.

Any comments would be great

thanks

    Hi,

I have had surgical intervention to remove a left and right cervical rib in October 2010 and January 2011. The relief of pain was immediate. However, I am only just *now* experiencing a reocurrance of the initial symptoms of my condition (November 2011) ... obviously I'm feeling panicked about it. I've left messages with at least two consultants who have dealt with me in the last two years. If you hear anything that may help me, please, PLEASE post again.

    Regards

Forgot to mention that a consultant that I saw a few weeks ago had said that it could reoccur .... at the time I had only just begun to notice stiffness in my right and left arm and also behind the shoulder blades and neck. I also have increased 'cracking' of elbow joint and shoulders....

    Hi Ness

Thanks so much for the info, I was beginning to think it was just me !! I haven’t been to the doctor yet, as I’ve left the UK and now live in Cyprus (where I’m not sure they know what it is or how to treat it lol !! and don’t have my medical records) so im a bit unsure what to do. I’ve started physiotherapy to try and release the nerves etc but hasn’t had an effect yet !

If it gets worse I’ll go to the doctor and see what they say. So if it has re-occurred, does that mean the same surgery again, what did your doctor say ?? It took about 4 months last time to get back to work in Cyprus from the UK as the pain was so bad, really don’t want that again !!

    Keep me update,

    Cheers

My cons said they don't grow back, but you can be affected by scar tissue that may need surgical intervention as it causes the same probs... But I have heard of them growing back, hence why I asked. I am still a little unsure.

Good luck, it is really awful sad

    Take care

    Morning smile

I just wondered if you had had any response from your consultant?

I had my cervical rib removed in July 2009... after about a year i was experiencing hardly any symptoms.

But for the last 9 months all of the symptoms have come back but are 10x worse!!! I went to see my consultant last week and have got to go for another nerve and muscle test on 5th March OUCH!!

I have a funny feeling that they didn't remove all of it... but also have heard that the rib can re-form!
