Thought they were tonsil stones -- now I think it's tonsillitis? (PICTURE)

PLEASE HELP I'm so worried.  I went to the dentist, and then the doctor, who both BARELY looked at my tonsils and diagnosed me with tonsil stones.  For the past day, I've been prodding at my tonsils trying pop out a tonsil stone... no luck.  I researched photos, and it looks like I have tonsillitis, not tonsil stones?

I've had symptoms for 7 days (sore throat & swollen lymph nodes).  I'm leaving for a month-long trip on Wednesday, and I'm worried this will progress while I am away.  Is it serious or benign? I'm freaking out.

    They should have checked you for strep and given you anti-biotics if it came back positive.

    It could be viral too though, in which case you'll just have to let your body heal by itself unfortunately.

    You could have both...tonsillitis and stones...they often go together.  As you have been prodding and poking your tonsils you may have increased the feeling of soreness etc.      This is fairly common in younger people.   Its not serious and often just clears up on its own.     If it is a virus causing this you just have to wait for it to resolve,but if it becomes a big problem to you while you are away,consult a local doctor...or if possible see a doctor on Tuesday.

    Try salt water gargles.

    I've had the same thing I don't think I have swollen lymph nodes. Did you find out what it was?
