Hi my names Jade,I’m 26 & I had a THR  a week ago & I am getting a really bad numbness and stabbing pain in the back of my heal on the operated leg. It’s really causing me to not sleep & causing me so much pain. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice would be great

It is probably nerve related.  Ask your doc

Hi Jade I had a burning sensation a few days after my thr. I thought it was the compression socks at first. Im 5 weeks post op now and my both heels seem to rub and burn in the night. I put a pillow under my ankles so my heels are raised off the bed. My physio thinks its PLANTAR FASCIITIS which is inflamation in the sole of the foot. Good luck with your recovery 😁 xx

Hi Jade you can get sheepskin pads to put under your heels from the mobility shops just look for pressure relieving fleece pads or fleece heel protectors online. Also get someone to massage your heels with a good moisturiser. You can get specialise heel moisturisers from the pharmacy too. Keep doing your exercises and raise your feet on a pillow as has already been suggested. Good luck

    Hi jade,

Try a pillow under your foot.  I had and have the same thing under both feet.

I had the same problem after my THR. It's nerve thing. It went away but after 15 years it comes back. My pain is on the outer thigh. I experience a numb-tingling on the surface of my thigh. The pain that I feel is when I move or stretch my leg.  The pain feel as if a knife was cutting into my need or an electric shock. On a level from 1 to 10. It's a 10. I wait about a minute or less and the pain goes away. This happen at night while I am sleeping. My doctor prescribed Gabapentin, 300 Mg. It's prescribed for damaged nerves (postherpetic pain). Check with your doctor. It's not really working for me except maybe for one side effect. It makes you sleepy and drowsy, There are other side effects that your doctor needs to take into account. One this is that I am overweight which can cause pressure on a larger nerve that is connected to other nerves that run down you leg. I have to take the meds until I finish them all. I did see another Orthopedic doctor who ordered an X-ray of my back and found a lower disk that maybe putting pressure on the nerve. I am getting an MRI which should show the  large sensory nerve to the leg---the lateral fermoral cutaneous nerve is being compressed. I did some research that lead me to "Burning Thigh Pain (Meraigla Paresthetica) Sad to here you had a THR at such young age. I was 63. I hope this helps.

I had problems with tendonitis in my achilles tendon before my THR, sounds very like your pain to me.

I saw a physio, and she told me to get some rather expensive shoe insoles from Formthotics to correct my walking. Result: It worked. My advice: see a foot specialist or physio.

I had this also & elevation of my feet helped massively & it passed.

Do all the calf raising & foot circle rehab they give you.

Soon as you get moving it will improve.

Of course raise it with your surgeon timeout your mind at rest.

You are so young to have THR. Are you hyper mobile?

    Wishing you all the best.

      Hi,

Thank you for your advice! smile

I had a better nights sleep last night,my partner moisturised my heal and we put some compression socks on that helped a lot.

I was born with a shallow socket which caused my hip to grow outside of the socket 😣..very painful! They were very hesitant about giving me one at first because of my age but it’s done now & I am so relieved!
