THR and a Gluteus Minumus tendon repair

I am 14 weeks post surgery of my right hip and tendon repair of the Gluteus Minimus tendon. I have been off my crutch for about 5 weeks. I am walking ok but my IT band and the outside of my knee hurts at times. Has anyone ever had a tendon repair and how long did it take until you were back to normal. They found this when they took out my bursa which was giving me a lot of discomfort.

IT Band is a B, it was the biggest problem I had as well. They removed the bursa too.m It had tiny little tears took time pain meds and therapy for it to heel. Almost 8 months. Of course everyone is different. Never compare your heeling to others . We can give you our time of heeling and experience as everyone has different heeling issues. Ice it to control the swelling. Your therapist will help with getting you back on the road again!
Sorry this happened it's a set back but nothing we hippies can't overcome.
One day at a time . Lots of rest protien shakes rest and eat well therapy and family support are all good for recovery !
Wihing you you well and sending many heeling blessings.
keep posting
keep post with your progress.

lorida on the 30th and he will tell me if I can start doing a little jogging on course. I had the surgery in Boston but we are down here for the winter. I just want to believe I will return to what I was and hopefully better.

I do agility and herding. What kind of dogs? I have border collies and Shellie's. Fast and smart. Even on a good day it's tough keeping up with them.
After my first THR I couldn't run. I was in my 40's. So we did some adjustments in training and I used a long training bamboo branch for pointing & blocking . They got if after a few runs. They were already trained.
The THR doc knew my active life and added the three screws in the metal cup attached to the hip bone and added bone implant to stregthen the hip bone itself from the damage fron OA. The joint metal cup prothesisis is still in good shape.
I hope you will be running soon. It takes the brain longer to receive the signals from the new metal joint due to the bone and natural signals. The natural signals are removed and takes time for the brain to adjust to the new prothesis.
There is another post on this forum on this. There is actually a word for it, I can't think of right now, for the brain need time to be retrained to a foreign prothesis. I'll look for it and post it later.
Good luck to you on the course. It's great exercise and great therapy!

Here's the explination of hip prostheses connection to brain.
proprioception. (pro'pre-o-sep'sh?n) The unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from stimuli within the body itself. In humans, these stimuli are detected by nerves within the body itself, as well as by the semicircular canals of the inner ear. That why we have the odd connection to new joints the nerves take time to repave the way to the brain. It has no connection at first implanted until our brains catch up to the new movement and new signals sent by our bodies to the brain.

Hi, Diane! If I understand correctly, you had a total hip replacement, and during that surgery, when they were also doing a bursectomy they discovered your minimus tendon tear, is that right? So they repaired that as well.
I assume your surgeon has told you that your hip replacement is healing as expected, with no problems with your prostheses. Full recovery from a THR takes a long time! But you are having soft tissue pain and issues, specifically IT band. There are ways of treating that, and your orthopedist should be able to help you, perhaps in conjunction with a knowledgeable physical therapist.
Regarding your question about the gluteal tendon recovery, I can tell you that I had surgery 3 weeks ago to repair both my gluteus medius and minimus tendons. I had a THR in July of 2015 and never was able to walk without a severe limp and pain afterwards, and it was finally determined (by a second opinion orthopedic surgeon) that my symptoms were due to torn gluteal tendons in the THR leg. I'm 20 pound weight-bearing on the surgical leg for 6 weeks, and then I'll be able to go full weight bearing and start some outpatient PT to help me learn to walk without aids after using them for the last 16 months. My gluteus medius and minimus muscles haven't really been used in all that time, and I'll have to work on gradually strengthening them without tearing the tendons again.
So, I'll let you know in a few months how it goes. Right now I have no idea if the surgery was successful or not. I'm guessing it was, since I no longer have the awful pain I had all that time, but being able to walk unaided without a limp in future will tell the tale.
Do you have any reason to think that your GM tendon has not healed? Are you able to walk without a limp? Do you have any gluteal pain? I know you have the IT band/knee pain, but it is unlikely that has anything to do with your gluteal tendon repair.

Annie,
So happy to hear your pain is finally gone. It's hard on us hippies to deal with chronic pain after THR especially when we had dealt with it before THR.
Keep posting let us know how your doing.

I will, Hope! I was at a rehab facility for 2 weeks and came home a couple of days ago. My recovery so far is so much easier and less painful than with my THR a year ago. Except for immediately after surgery, I've only used acetaminophen for pain, and haven't used any of that for a week and a half! It was helpful for me to be at the rehab, since I felt so good, I'm sure I would have overdone things at home. I'm just trying hard to keep to the 20 pound weight-bearing restriction and rest enough so that the tendons can heal properly. My husband is being very supportive, doing all the food shopping, laundry, cleaning, and lifting.
I am hoping you are doing better. Take care!
