THR Hospital Stay Duration

How long did everyone stay in hospital after their op?
I was only in for four days and three nights after my hip replacement. I only managed to stay at home one day before being readmitted due to a hospital acquired infection.
I then spent a further six days in hospital on an IV drip. The consultant never really identified the real cause of the infection. It was either very severe gastroenteritis or based on some of the blood antibodies that were found Hepatitis A. It was not a very pleasant experience.

That is really quick.
My Op wasn't until gone 3PM on the 13th of August and I wasn't out of recovery and onto the ward until nearly 10PM. I had a general anaesthetic, which led to breathing problems and also lost more blood than expected.

I went in Weds 8th June, back in my room by 5pm (just in time for tea) & home Friday morning 10.30am. I was determined to only be in the minimum time & conveniently (for the hubby), just in time for the start of the Euro's!

Thank you Annette. I would have been home sooner apart for some complications. I'm glad it all went OK for you.

I was in for 6days 5 nights. I also got a infection that they couldn't identify. Think it was my body rebelling . Had IV antibiotics for 3 days. Originally was Told I would be in 3 days. I just knew I didn't feel right. Still that's 11months behind me now. Don't regret having the op.

I had been climbing stairs for four months with crutches already.
It wasn't easy the first time after I broke my hip.

Thank you Sue.
I am just putting it all down to a bad few months. It is improving daily now, so I am looking forward to going for a swim again and at some point back out on my bike. Although as it was a cycling accident that started it all, I am in two minds about tempting fate again.😀

I'm 1 week and 4 days post op for thr and they just kept me overnight. I, too, am looking forward to swimming and biking again following my recovery, but the biking also kind of has me worried. The last thing I want to do is dislocate the new hip or fall and have to go through all of this again! 😁
Are you making any plans regarding how you will overcome the mental fear/nervousness of getting on your bike again, Adam? Sure would like some good pointers. 🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴

I'm not sure I'm really scared of getting back on my bike again. It was a freak cycling accident that started all this in April. I think my biggest fear is damaging the hip remaking it fail and leading to an early revision.
So for the time being I just want to get back in the pool and restore full mobility.
When I do get back on my bike, I want to be confident. I managed to persuade my daughter to continue riding even though she was with me when I had the accident. So I don't want her to feel this has been completely life changing for me.
