THR how much groin pain is normal

hi everyone,

just reaching out to those of you who have been post op for a while.

I'm 11 days post op and have groin pain that is quite strong when I walk or do the bed exercises. On Friday the physio advised me to stop the exercises (that I felt were aggravating it), and to just do regular 4 point walking (left crutch when stepping forward with right leg and viva versa). I still feel the pain when doing this walking. It isn't intense, but it makes me kinda nervous to weight bear on operated leg, which I know is important to help get the pelvis realigned and make my gait normal.

I'm definitely not trying to do too much, or to get ahead of myself, but i do tend to assume worst case scenario on things that don't quite make sense to me. Am perfectly happy to accept that this is my kink in my road to recovery, that will get worked out slowly and steadily over time. Just want a bit of reassurance that it isn't something more ominous.

anyone had anything similar?

thanks,

lindsey

Early days for you I was advised to go steady for the first 6 weeks, I too was experiencing groin pain and asked for advice on here, others reported feeling it too I'm 7 weeks today and groin pain not present all the time now and to less a degree. It's only this last week that I feel confident to try more movement and I'm surprised at what I can do. Before my op I couldn't stand with my bad leg straight now I can, balance is still an issue for me but practising daily, be easy on yourself and u will get there, I feel so much better x

I am 7 weeks post op and groin pain most of the time is there when I walk. Still ice- Inc it. Using Rollator. Cane is hard for me. Hard to balance. I had right anterior, and have Parkinson's disease primarily on left side, so had been using a cane for my left leg and feel unstable using cane for right leg. I just started leaving the house for a trip to store, support group. I was in great shape prior to fall/hip replacement so get scared that I feel like my surgical leg will give out when walking longer distance in new environments. I'm getting panic attacks a lot. I know my recovery is complicated by PD - and I may need the Rollator for a long time. I think my groin pain and have that "sitting on a golf ball feeling plus butt pain. Will be there a long time. I was told full recovery would be 4 months to a year.

My surgery was emergency so am only learning about this thru this forum. Where responses are so quick and informative.

      Hi pwp.

      thanks for sharing.

great that you've found this forum.

im a newbie, but there are folks on here who have been post op a while now.

they are really special, kind and generous people who encourage, support and commiserate in just the right way, just when you need it.

how are you doing with your panic attacks? I don't suffer from the anymore, but found that some mild medication, tranquil setting , aromatherapy and guided meditations helped a lot when I did. I was able to access an inner stillness which took me away from the fear.

i hope you can get the support you need from your medics and this forum.

      god bless,

      lindsey x

I am at exactly the same point (12th Feb) but this is my second in 6mths. I am constantly amazed at the different exercise plans we are all given. I was just told to walk with aids and make sure I walked heel through toe.

Last June I got a bit worried I wasn't doing enough because people on this forum were flinging themselves all over the place. I stepped up and got groin pain, leg pain, foot and ankle burn. This time I am just walking and am so much stronger.

This time I know that my body will heal at its own pace. It is early days. The hardware is just starting to bed in and I am doing nothing this time to irritate it.

Last time I worked slowly on my walking pattern and by six weeks I was driving and walking without a limp. At 8 weeks I started swimming and built up strength.

My first hip is now doing me proud and holding up the newbie.

My advice- take the gentle path, it is better long term
