Thread Worms?

Hello,

I have been fighting back and forth with myself whether or not I have thread worms. I've gone to great extents to disenfect my house, scrubbing down everything, changing sheets, getting rid of dust, washing loads of clothing.

I know a common symptom is "itching" at night. I've been getting great sleeps, not itchy at all in the night.

What I am worried about is sometimes I feel a wiggling sensation close to the anus. This happens once in awhile. Yesterday it happened twice, about mid day.

I've done the worm tape test, assesed my stool, and haven't seen any sign of them.

I was itchy yesterday afternoon although I currently have my period and often find that I feel a bit itchy whenever I have my period.

Can someone provide some insight? Really not sure what to think. Am I just freaking out? Is there a way to be close to sure whether or not I have thread worms?

Thank you.

    HI kara,

Threadworm eggs are picked up off surfaces or bed linen if the bed has been used by a contaminated person also towels..They are mostly spread by children, they are picked up and are on their fingers, they put them in their mouth and the eggs thrive in the the intestines and come out of the anus at night as wriggling threadworms causing itching mostly at night . The only way to get rid of them is taking medication or thorough hygiene.. You can have a look at your stools to see if there is any white threadlike material in your stool.  Obviously, wear gloves before you look. If there are go to doc and get medication...also when you feel the itching sensations you mention go to the loo and wipe and check the toilet paper...hope this helps...best wishes..

    Hi Kara,

If you definetely know that there are no signs of the worm from the tests then another reason for this itchy syptom could be a candida infection. This can be treated with a diet restricting sugar especially. A natural antifungal like Pau D'Arco for instance can also be taken with food, Probiotics help too.

    Hi Kara,

If your investigations are normal then no need to worry. You mentioned that, this itching is associated with your periods. The sanitary napkins could cause allergy sometimes. Why don’t you change it once? Sometimes hormonal changes that occur before, during and after menses could induce skin irritation. Please confirm the symptom relationship with periods. If it’s still there kindly visit your doctor for local examination to rule out external infection at the site.
