Threadworm for months

Posted , 3 users are following.

I've been fighting a Threadworm infection since October 2016 , I've used every medication I can get my hands on.

My doctor has said she can refer me to a microbiologist which I'm pleased about.

I think the only medication left for me to try is Albendazole

Has anyone had success with Albendazole?

I already suffer from depression and anxiety and this is making everything so much worse.

Any advice would be much appreciated

    Hi Laura,

I had a continuos threadworm infestation for over 4 years. I tried many ways to get rid of them including two or three over the counter pills. These reduced the itchiness but it soon came back full steam.

Finally I came across the method of using Vaseline (applied to the anus). It worked.

I applied Vaseline on waking up, after showering, going to the loo (no.2) and before going to sleep. I also applied it everytime I felt an itch. I did this rigorously. The itches began to drop in frequency after a week and then increasingly dwindled. I think it was after about a month that the itching ceased. But I carried on applying the Vaseline for about two to three months.

I am sure any petroleum jelly would work and perhaps a natural alternative such as coconut oil. I believe it works because the jelly traps the eggs and stops them fertilising. I think it also kills the egg layers as well.

Prior to this discovery, I virtually resigned myself to having threadworms for the rest of my life. So I was pleasantly surprised!

    Best regards.

      Thank you Peter69091

I have tried this before for months but I didn't do it all day, just at night time.

      Maybe I will try this.

      Thank you

I went to my doctors as I'd been suffering for months /yrs and saw a doctor that was originally from Pakistan and she said over there they use ivermectin and tried to get me some here in the uk but couldn't as it's not a licensed medication over here she did however prescribe me and the family albendazole she only prescribed two doses but I looked into it on the net and found that a three month course of taking one tablet once a week works the best so I ordered some from the internet and did took them for three months alongside wet dusting everything every day and changing bedding every 3 days and showering every morning. That was 6 months ago and me and the family haven't had any signs since we still shower every morning as a precaution but I do feel I've finally got rid of them. Hope this helps xx

      Wow Emmybird2

      Thank you for your reply

Are you in the UK ?

Where did you order the tablets from?

      Thanks x

To be totally honest laura27275 I can't remember I needed to treat the whole family (5of us) so bought them in bulk of 90 it cost about £50 with shipping as they come from out side the uk(yes I'm in the uk) I took a chance and ordered from a random pharmacist site I was that desperate the ones I got from the doc were gks but the ones from the net were ALBI-400 and they worked so the risk for me was worth it xx

Did your go prescribe the Albendazole first or was that a specialist?

I'm feeling pretty desperate and hoping they will work for me too

      Xx

I also want to add that I could feel them at the front at times too so I look into how to remove them from my female bits too and once a week I use to douch with hydrogen peroxide that you get from the chemist it's a skin sanitiser you dilute it with water. And I feel that is how I got rid of them from that area as in my head no amount of medication would work as you don't exactly digest it up there do you. Sorry for been detailed it I know how depressing this issue is xx

Oh yes that does make it trickier to treat! I've never had one there as far as I know but who knows!!! I might try that as a precaution as well as the meds

Yes it is very depressing, it just seems ridiculous that they won't go away .

Thank you so much for your help

Just my regular gp but I was lucky as like I say she was from Pakistan and worms are a regular occurrence out there so she really knew her stuff I told her I'd had 4 doses of the ovex as I'd done this round of treatment weekly as the treatment the yr before hadn't worked I said I'd looked into treatments and found that there were two other options ivermectin and albendazole could she prescribe me any she said that ivermectin is the best treatment available but she didn't know if it was available so she sent me home and said she would contact me that evening as to which drug she could prescribe and she did she prescribe albendazole for all 5 of us as we were all under the same gp. The prescription took 2weeks to arrive as it's ordered from abroad and in that time I'd read a post on here somewhere saying that a specialist had said the best way to take it is for 3 months once a week so that's when I ordered my own and like I say I feel it's worked xx

Thank you, that gives me hope!!!

So I'd need enough for everyone to take for the 3 months.

      I'm praying this works

It's great to have a bit of guidance as my doctor's are a bit clueless

Yes I treated everyone as they spread so easily I know my son and littlest daughter definitely had them too as I did the night time checks and saw them.

I know what you mean about the doctors I first found I had them after having a hysterectomy I had to have a ct scan and had to drink barium so my insides would show up on X-ray and the barium made them come out in spades as it sticks to the insides of your digestive track so it obviously loosened them and from there the doctors had no idea how hard it was to get rid I'd had that many courses of ovex I lost count and many of them didn't believe me I was just lucky on the last bout that it was a gp that had first hand knowledge of them xx

Really? Wow you've been through a lot!!

My 5 year old son and my partner don't have symptoms even after all this time.

      But I'd treat all anyway.

Yes doctors just know as much as it says on the info leaflet in the ovex it seems!!

Your advice has been great though, hopefully I can finally get rid of the little #*#*#*#*#s !!!!

      Xx
