Three months post op hip pinning with excruciating pain down leg and in knee..anybody relate?

I was cleared by my surgeon who said my femoral break was healed. I did not have a hip replacement I have three screws that go into the ball. I have excruciating pain that feels to me like nerve pain from my buttocks and side where my hip is all the way down my leg and in my knee. It is getting worse and worse and I am very concerned that something is wrong inside with my surgery. Has anyone experienced excruciating nerve like pain down your leg and knee like this. I would be interested to hear your replies please.

Is it down the back of your leg or the whole leg?

I was just wondering if it were sciatica, but it seems to be in more than one place not just the sciatic nerve. It does sound like it might be nerve pain as you say. Are you able to see someone and perhaps get a scan?

In general, most hip replacement patients will take 1 to 2 months to resume normal routine activities.

A femoral break is slightly different to a normal pre planned hip replacement. Problems can be very different depending on the break. I had a normal hip replacement and I was certainly not up to carrying on as normal after a month or even two months. I was not allowed to drive for six weeks for example or even bend too far.

Hi.I had the same op as you, broken femur an three screws., But Im in no pain. The fracture takes two years before it is totallly fused and healed. Its been over four months now and Im mobile with a walking stick. I would get it checked out if I was you.Regards Linda.

seeing surgeons PA THURSDAY. VERY hard to actually see surgeon, ever. i don' t like that at all. If I have to get second opinion from a different surgeon, I PLAN TO, and soon.

It sounds like a good idea to find another surgeon, what can a PA do for you.

I did actually see mine in the end once, but he seemed quite keen on delegating to assistants. I would have thought in your case he really would have been checking up on you.

My xray was perfect today. I t is not my hip causing leg and knee pain....it is coming from degenerative disc issue. Epidurals may help. I am so relieved it is not my hip...I WAS SO SCARED!

Hi. I had a follow up with surgeon at 6 and 12 wks. Dont need to go back for another 6 mths. But he said I was making remarkable progress at my last visit . He explained how it takes longer for those who have had their hips pinnned to heal verse those who have had a hip replacement. And we still run the risk of the head of the femur dying through lack of blood supply. All scary stuff I know, but they are obligated to inform us of the worst case scenario. He informed me also that a few of his patients still hadnt progressed as well as I have. And as I had no pain that was a good sign that the femur was recovering well. As I said in my previous reply I would be getting back to your doctor regarding your pain issues.Regards Linda.

    Hi

I would go see your surgeon, consultant or GP as soon as possible. They should sort it out. Be assertive ask for immediate consultation. I think they should be able to correct your pain.

    Good luck
