Three years post op

Just realised that I was coming up to my three year anniversary and thought I would drop in and see what is going on. To put things into perspective I had a total abdominal hysterectomy due to what was found to be a large (handball sized) benign tumour . No-one could feel this by examination but I kept insisting there was something wrong and it was eventually found by ultrasound. I cannot tell you what a relief that was! Month by month after the op I felt better. At 10 months I thought I had recovered. At 1 year I felt better still and we were taking our caravan away and even spent a month abroad. In the 2nd year we spent 10 weeks touring Europe and then had another month in the autumn. We bought electric bikes that have given us a new lease of life. This last year has seen us going abroad again. Since then I have been able to return to Scottish country dancing and recently re-joined the gym . Swimming is much more comfortable. In October I turned 67 years old. Yes there are still some hiccups. My stomach problems are still there but more manageable. Ladies - there is life post op. Go for it and get your life back. Many thanks to this site who helped keep me sane at a tough time.

Hello! It is really good of you to keep in touch. Well done you! I've posted a few encouraging thoughts myself. I am only 12 weeks post-op (TAH) but have resumed about 75% of my activities. Regaining strength to do certain yoga moves (eg chaturanga to upward dog) takes some time but I'm getting there. I just wish my little pregnant pooch would go away, but I'm resigned to it looking this way for a year based on some other posts here. I guess more importantly, keeping your digestive system on track helps avoid the extra discomfort associated with bloat after a TAH. I've just started on probiotics so I will see how that goes. Thanks again for your insights.

The reason my tumour took so long to be diagnosed was due to my tummy troubles. i now take Symprove which is a probiotic medicine. costly but it has made a huge difference.

Thank you for posting and I'm pleased to hear your life has improved and you're so active. I have my surgery in a few days and am feeling very apprehensive, so your post has helped a lot.
