Throbbing pain in right side

Today and part of yesterday was pretty unpleasant, because I've been having a painful throbbing sensation in my abdomen on the right, along the hip, and in my mid back. All of it is on the right side, which is only adding to my worry. I know that logically this could be a flare up, since I had a lot of bread yesterday, which is a trigger food for me, but I can't stop worrying about appendicitis and other horrible and deadly diseases. The pains sort of feel like muscle spasms and they're really driving me crazy. I'm also feeling a lot of nausea and some shortness of breath. Is there some way I can calm myself down, or maybe sooth the pain and/or nausea? I don't want to freak out and run to the hospital again but I'm really worried, and I need to somehow get myself to stop jumping to the absolute worst conclusions first. I've done the press test on my abdomen quite a lot and I haven't felt anything besides the usual discomfort that comes with jabbing myself in the gut, so logically I should be able to rule appendicitis out but you know me. I'm always dying of something.

My IBS nausea was caused by the pain. Once my pain was under control, my nausea stopped. Try distraction techniques such as a hobby or light exercise to relieve your anxiety. My health anxiety was cured by my diagnosis.

I have not. I need a colonoscopy for my doctor to properly diagnose me with IBS but after considering the positives vs negatives, I've decided not to go through with it as it's only precautionary. I'm operating under the assumption of IBS because it gets worse in times of stress and has a tendency to get worse when I eat heavy foods like red meat. I'm trying to get my mind under control but it's just so hard...I would love a proper diagnosis but I can not force myself to commit to all the tests they want to give me.

My health anxiety went through the roof while having tests because nothing showed up and it was only after three and a half months that I got answers.
Self diagnosis is not recommended. Tests are your only way forward even if they cause you more pain and stress at first because they will lead to diagnosis, treatment and peace of mind.

Hi I am new to the forum, but not to IBS .I have had it many years, When I had a colonoscopy the bowel was in a spasm. Also many years ago during a scope , One Classic symptom is the pain/discomfort is relieved by a B/M. During attack until another one comes on, I carry Imodium everywhere. I recently for a script for Bentyl, and older medication m and anti spasmodic. Sometimes will take with Imodium if attack is bad enough ,Today is a horrific attack. with chills, nausea, feeling faint, not the first time, but has been a while since this severe. So doing the BRAT or CRAB diet , and resting, I do at times need a calming agent, such as low dose Xanax. I have also had the right side discomfort, from above hip to rib cage, for a couple months, even tingling at times I know the colon will do this, Anxiety and Stress plays a big role along with diet in IBS. Try when your thinking go's to the worse place, to think of something positive, or put on meditation music. and breathing in and out, concentrate on breathing. We need to try and calm down the autonomic nervous system. It is in charge is a lot. I also know the GI tract starts in the mouth. So burping can come with it. Another thing I do for a panic attack, which thankfully are not often any longer, is pop a sour lemon ball in my mouth. To change the Brain from emergency mode which it is in during panic attacks. cold water the the face and back of neck, also gets it;s attention.. I hope in some, way I helped remember no one has died from IBS we just feel that way, or from panic attacks, I worked in medical field for several years, still remember some things,

Hi I feel for you pippa in the state you're in. I only take 1 thing for sickness that shifts it and it's ginger that removes it. An old fashioned recipe that works and eases it off. I take little ginger sticks. The sickness goes, life goes on.
