two days back i noticed red bump on finger with some pain. now pain has increased , bump is warm and its swollen and it is becoming white from corners now. i looked up  on net and found i have Paronychia. this is the first time i have somthing like this. i will visit doctor tommorow. but i had knife injury a month or two back at same place. can it be because of that? injury was healed and skin came on that. i read it is due to candida. i dont remember getting hurt other then that, also i am taking probiotics for my gut.

Your knife injury may have introduced infection into the deep layers of skin tissue. The upper layers have healed but the infection is still there and sounds as though it has multiplied.  If it was from a knife wound it probably isnt a candida infection, and may not strictly be Paronychia

See a doctor ...you probably need antibiotics. Dont mess around with the lump, you could spread the infection. Let your doctor sort it out.

I think it could be something serious? I was slicing onion. It was a vegetable knife. Can other other infections would also have passed? I am worried now, I didn't even use anti septic that time. Just washed it with water. It was deep cut but blood stopped flowing very quickly.

Oh dear,I hope I havent alarmed you. These sort of infections happen all the time so please dont worry.   However there is always a chance that an infection can spread if not treated with antibiotics.  Your own antibodies are fighting back...that is the redness and swelling, but antibiotics will clear it up in no time.

I'm guessing you are not in UK?

      Hi,

No, Im not from UK. Swelling reduced on 4th day on its own. The puss formed dried out. I think it's okay now. Skin near the nail corner is gone but I hope it will come back.

So glad to hear it is healing on its own.  yes, the nail corner skin should gradually grow back.    Be careful with those knives!
