thrombosis

ive just been to the doctor today as i had a lumpy area on the lower left side of my left calf area, a prominent vien runs through the swelling, like a main vein, you can feel in the swelling albeit not very large, is a lumpy part. The doctor said it was a soft tissue thrombosis, she said its not a DVT or she would be worried, but she said to go and buy a support stocking and put some anti inflammitory gel on it, then it will go down in about 2 weeks, but after reading about thrombosis online, I am now concerned I should have had more involved investigation, the chemist that I went to get the gel from said that I should have a stocking measured by a nurse at the clinic , and not just sent off to buy one. I bought one at a general store, an ankle support sock that goes over it ok, but I think its not right to be left to buy any  kind of support without knowing which? i am also concerned what if I have underlying problems, if maybe a clot is ready to breakaway from the lump, or lung problems. my leg aches, and its tiring walking up stairs as my leg feels weighty, no energy. ive also got swollen ankles above my heels, very puffy and they hurt so bad when I go to bed, I put a cushion under them but its still painful through the night. plus, I am stupid asI smoke, and I am worried its the cause, or part of. what should I do, I need to go back as I dont want to leave it just like this and worry about having an aneuryism or stroke or anything!!

Did you have an eco doppler? It shows the extension of the thrombosis. I had two thrombophlebitis in Jan 2013 followed by a DVT in Oct 2013. I am on anticoagulants for a lifetime. Regarding compression stocking, doctor should prescribe 20-30 or 30-40 mm Hg. Technical staff can take measurements to identify the size that fits you. I believe it should be long enough to compress ankles and calves. DVT is usually followed by valve damage thus allowing the inversion of the direction of blood flow in surface veins. The stocking reduces returning flows and improves the flow in deep veins.

Eco (or echo) doppler is a simple non-invasive and non-expensive exam that uses the technology of ultrasound reflection. It permits the visualization of vascular structure and venous flows, including cysts, aneurysms and tumors. It is used to diagnose both venous insufficiency and thrombosis.

Hi have either of you developed Post thrombotic syndrome? I have started a new discussion as there is now treatment for this if you are suitable. See my posts.
