thumb arthritis stem cell therapy

Has anyone had stem cell therapy on a thumb?  I am a 70 year old woman interested in Bone Marrow, and PRP injections but have not found anyone who has had this procedure done.  Wondering if it will be worth it.  I realize there is no guarantee of success, but did it help you and for how long?

Have you gotten a stem cell injection?  I am considering it and would be interested in your thoughts.

    Hi Diane,

?I have been having PRP now for 4 years and find it fantastic.  I have full movement of my thumbs and absolutely no pain. Initially I had to have 3 injections 2 weeks apart of my own plasma and thought it was a waste of time but about 2 weeks after my last injection I found I had full pain-free movement. I now have a injection about every 5 months or when I feel the pain coming back. A couple of times I have waited a bit too long and have had to have the injection plus a follow-up two weeks later. My last injection was two days ago. I have to say it's not pleasant and have found if I take 2 panadine prior to the injections it doesn't hurt as much. But believe me the 20 seconds of pain is well worth the effort for 4 to 5 months of no pain. My sports medicine doctor performs the procedure and it takes about 20 mins. I am 69.

Yes, I had the stem cell from bone marrow two years ago and had a 50 to 60 percent improvement after about 6 months. The PRP works for some situations but it depends how bad the joints are. I had stage 4 arthritis so my doctor did not even recommend just the PRP (although PRP is used in conjunction with stem cell therapy to feed the stem cells). Thumbs don't respond as well as knees and some other joints but you will probably have improvement. Make sure you get the bone marrow procedure. Those cells work better for repairing cartilage than fat cells which were a total failure for me on my back and for a number of knee procedures I know personally. The research also shows that. Fat seems to work pretty well in animals though. Don't go to one of those clinics that are popping up everywhere selling amniotic fluid. Tests show there are no viable stem cells after processing. There could be something in there worth something but not stem cells. There is a lot of marketing and high ticket prices but you're not getting what you're being sold .

Do you know if you have had any cartilage regeneration in your thumbs following the stem cell procedure?

I don't know. I don't feel the need to spend the money to get an MRI to see what it looks like inside. My thumbs are pretty good but not perfect. I still have soreness if I do push ups or something else that puts a lot of stress on the joints. I don't have the throbbing I used to have even at rest. I try to remember to use more of my hand and not put too much weight on my thumbs when lifting or grasping. My left thumb gets a little sore when I play guitar but that could be my technique. I am working to improve that. The stem cells are not a miracle and all pain is not eliminated but they have helped and I don't feel that I have problems anymore doing daily things.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed you also had the stem cells in your facet joints, I too have oa but in my neck. Did you get much relief from these injections? I'm 50 but was told I had the neck of an 80 year old according to xrays!

I had it done on the two thumbs 1/2 years prior and in addition my wrist which I had sprained numerous prior years. I could do my wrist on the grounds that my foundational microorganism check was surprisingly high so there was additional and we would not like to squander them. I had arrange 4 joint pain which is progressed yet I am a great deal more youthful than you so that could make a difference...also relies upon your immature microorganism tally, general health, and whether you take any medicines which could upset the achievement. My specialist gave me a 2 out of 3 shot for inprovement as I am more than 50, had propelled joint inflammation , and thumbs require high quantities of cells (luckily I had those high numbers however you don't know until the point when the marrow is handled.) Pain from the strategy waited quite a while to the extent doing catches, zippers, and so on yet that is a piece of the outcome from a high cell count high count more agony yet better possibility for progress.

    My mom has knee arthritis.

Her story began last year when she was in enormous knee pain. She was advised by 3 doctors to do the knee replacement, but I wanted to find an alternative.

So, I decided to find a way to avoid her surgery. Mom's condition was qualified as degenerative arthritis. So I ran into the forum (unfortunately I lost the link) where people were in the same situation as my mom was. One of the members told about the corticosteroids and hyaluronic acid injections into the joint. In addition to the knee brace and physical therapy it significantly reduced his knee pain and improved his life. So, I asked him about the clinic where he was treated. He pointed out ARO or Advanced Regenerative Orthopedics.

So far, my mom has had 3 shots and she says she already feels the results. We didn't get our hopes up for this treatment cuz I read that some people weren't helped, but, fortunately, this therapy is helping my mom, her body doesn't reject the cells. I think it is worth trying

It doesn't seem that there have been many posts here lately. I looked at this forum before having my stem cell treatment. I was hoping to get more responses than I've seen here.

I'm a 60 year old active male. I had treatments 3 weeks ago in both thumbs. I first started feeling improvement after 2 weeks. I still have discomfort, but it seems to be improving. I mainly feel pressure more than pain. after having injections for several years, I was at a point where it was try the treatment or have surgery. I'm glad i made this choice. I will continue to update.
