Sarah I have some pain as well. It started about a month post surgery. I don't know if that started about the same to you but I think it is normal. I am 2 months post surgery and the numbness in my thumb is subsiding but I do get this throbbing ache just below my thumb at the point where my wrist is. It is there for a while and then seems to go away and return letting me know I am still here.

?Otherwise I have no other symptoms of numbness that I had across my fingers before the surgery. I had the surgery done on my dominent hand. I need it done on both. I chose the dominent hand first because I wanted to stop the onset of problems caused by not getting it fixed. I am retired so I golf a lot. I find that my surgery has not hurt my game. In fact I think I am more able to perform better in the game post surgery though it took a few weeks to get my feeling in my grip. Prior to surgery I had a feeling I was not gripping hard enough but I was in fact over gripping or as some put it gripping too hard. I also dropped silverware while eating prior. I was classic carpal.

?Take your NSAID's to relieve the pain. It is a sign that you are healing. Sorry for the long reply.

Funny enough Sarah, I am also 5 weeks post op and i am also finding pain and weakness in my thumb. A little worried as I am returning to work in just over a week and hope I will be able to perform my job. I am massaging it as much as possible, trying to keep it mobile.

    Good luck

Yes I am also back to work in a week. A little worried as in another 6 weeks I am then having the same surgery on my dominant hand and I'm shot if anything happens to that one

To both Terry and Sarah. I was golfing a little over three weeks post surgery. I didnt just have carpal done either. I had a trigger finger release surgery at the same time on the same hand. In order to explain the trigger finger was very painful where one of my fingers would lock in a bent position and when I worked hard at opening the hand it would snap open much like the string on a bow. So to be able to grip the golf club to swing it for 9 holes or even a week later 18 holes might seem remarkible but it wasn't. My hand and muscles tired some. Take it easy but don't baby it. Use it and it will heal faster. Just take NSAIDS like Alieve or Ibuprophen or even aspirin as needed. Do not hurry anything that requires twisting or turning your wrist while holding something heavy. If you type for a living you should be fine. If you pound nails for work then you might want to wait two months post surgery before you slowly begin to control that hammer.
