Thyrogold Dosing

The initial recommended dose is 300mg. When I look at equivalents to other thyroid meds this seems high. I am game to try it but wonder what others' experiences have been. I suspect it would push my TSH down to practically nothing but from reading the posts here over the last couple of years I understand that TSH is far from a good indicator, and that like me many people with TSH around or below 1 still don't feel well. I would like to hear from anyone but especially people on  high-dose Thyrogold  with really low TSH and doing well. Thanks!

Hi Dave, I switched my mom from levo to ThyroGold. Her TSH was quite high on a dose of 125 levo, so i was going to have to mess with her meds anyway, I switched her to ThhroGold. She probably should have been on at 150-175 units of levo, since she's had her thyroid mostly removed.

I keep her dose as low as possible  cause she's elderly and is at risk for heart problems. Her dose on the ThyroGold is 600. She takes 300 in the morning and 300 at night.

She seems asymtpmatic at this dose, and I've gotten no flack from her docs about her levels.

Thanks, that's interesting and informative. Right now I am on 150 daily of NDT. Starting to think I am simply under medicated no matter what the levels say.

Yeah,  tried for a few years on the levo. It didn't work at any dose, and I just ended up sicker than when I started. I quit the levo and went to a non prescription similar to ThyroGold, but after a year, they changed the formulation, so I gave up and tried the amino acid therapy, which worked.

Hi Dave, yes, I was on NDT initially. It was ok until I moved and the new doc wouldn't prescribe it. Then later when I went back to it, I swear it was different and contains synthetic levo, as it didn't work as well. To make matters worse, labeling here does not differentiate between natural and synthetic levothyroxin. Weird, huh? You order NDT, and the label says levothyroxin on it. The amino acids work better than any of the 8 different meds I tried.
