Thyroid Confusion

I just came across this site.

I have a thyroid nodule which, after FNA, is considered to be suspicious. The Doctor wants to remove half (possibly all) of my thyroid.

Thing is, I have had hypothyroid (and sometimes hyperthyroid) symptoms for about 7 years now. I initially thought these symptoms were depression and anxiety, so I treated myself with natural remedies for same. Now I'm not sure what to think. Wouldn't removing even a part of my thyroid cause me to have even worst hypothyroid symptoms?

Thank you, in advance, to anyone who can give me some advice.

Better safe than sorry, I would probably suggest he take all out for future occurrence. If it's suspicious of something I would I would rather let them take it all out. I bet u aft r the surgery you will feel much better..

Hi Sonia....I had my thyroid removed 5 years ago.  I had Graves Disease, so was hyperthyroid, but reacted to the 2 possible treatments for it.  I am now on thyroxine for the rest of my life.

If you have part or all of your thyroid out, you will probably need thyroxine, but if you have hypothyroid then you need it anyway.  If my medication dosage is correct, which has been a bit hard to find the right dose, then I feel pretty good most of the time.

I don't think you would regret having the surgery.
