I had a total removal. Recently very was good. I suggest not talking much at first. 2 years later and my voice tends to get raspy. Ppl always ask me if I'm getting sick and it's just my normal "new" voice. It sounds like I just woke up. I also have difficulty clearing my throat, I must cough constantly and forcefully. I think it is because I returned to work rather quickly which required a lot of talking.

Oh yeah I have that as well, just thought it was due to the post nasal drip! Maybe just a drawback of thyroidectomy!

      Thanks

Hi Dawn had hemi thyroidectomy March 2015 & completion May 2015, recovery quick relatively painless & 2 years later all ok.

It's not too long an op usually done under GA.

You may not sing in a choir again but you will talk. They will check, your blood calcium levels to make sure parathyroids still ok & vocal chords before discharge, which is usually the day after op.
