Hi everybody, my name is Maria. I need some help.

I had a Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody test done several months ago. My levels came back 831.3. Is this high. What should I do if it is?

Thank You

Hi Maria, your TPOAb level seems high but it really depends on the measuring units your laboratory is using. In the UK, the unit IU/mL is used, and the result is normal if the level is below < 34 IU/mL.

A high TPOAb level indicates that your immune system is causing some degree of thyroid inflammation. This is commonly seem in patients with Hashimotos thyroiditis.

If you don't have any other symptoms then you might need regular monitoring (for example yearly) to see if you thyroid hormone levels are normal.

Hi Sam, thanks for the advice. I do have Graves Disease also. I was diagnose with it more than 10 years ago. My thyroid doctor still prescribes medication to decrease the amount of thyroid hormones circulating in my blood.

I also have thyroid nodules. My doctor just wants to wait and watch. I have been losing a lot of hair. Now I have irregular heart beat . My thyroid doctor says is because of menopause. My cardiologist does not really know what is causing the irregular heart beat.
