    Hi Leanne

    Please don't be scared.

A couple of years back - because I receive treatment for Gout, the Doc decided to check my Uric Acid blood levels with a test. But she was surprised to receive a report that my blood calcium levels were high (Hypercalcemia). She told me that this was sometimes an indicator that there was a cancer in the body. I was fortunate in that she sent me to a brilliant Endocrinologist. He did lots of tests and came to the conclusion that the high calcium levels were not caused by Cancer but by Hyperparathyroidism. In other words a problem with one of the Parathyroid glands in the throat. He arranged an Ultrasound test on the throat but this showed nothing. He advised me that this was sometimes the case even when there was in fact a problem there. He suggested that I should have an investigatory throat operation by a specialist Parathyroid surgeon. I was convinced by his expertise so I did. The surgeon told me that he had examined three Parathyroids and found nothing. Unusually my fourth Parathyroid was hidden by the Thyroid Gland, had been difficult to get to - but lo and behold - had found it blocked by a benign adenoma which he had removed. (The fact that it was hidden behind the Thyroid was the reason that it had not shown up on the Ultrascan).

The Surgeon asked me how I felt the morning after the op.

I told him that  - strangely - I felt a real clarity of mind. As though I'd been in a bit of a fog without knowing it. He said that was not unusual when Parathyroid blockages were removed.

It's a long story Leanne but I hope it helps. They will fix you for sure.

      Hi Derek,

Thank you for your reply I'm absolutely terrified about having this biopsy done as I hate needles to begin with and having them in my neck (ouch) can't believe I'm having it done Xmas eve so going to be in pain over the festive season while travelling to visit family, then having to wait for the results all over the holidays, I'm debating whether to opt for a local anaesthetic as it's another needle 😁 hope you have a lovely Christmas

Just a couple of things to add Leanne.

When you are terrified of pain and tense up it just adds to the torment.

None of us like needles. But the Eastern Yogis have it right. Try to make a real effort to relax and blank out your mind.

And as you say - is there a lot of point in having two needles ?

They will give you a local anaesthetic spray for sure.

It's rotten that your 'stuff' is happening before Xmas. But again - good - that necessary action is being taken.

Do try not to worry over Xmas. I'm sure everything is going to be OK for you.

Try to relax - put it behind you for a few days - and have a lovely time.
