Thyroid swollen

Hi ladies I just wanted too see if anyone has had this issue where one side of thyroid looks swollen no lumps just a whole side it doesn't hurt just looks weird.. I have been a synthroid for 10 years but I've never gone back to doctors since then, I'm 47 and weird stuff starting happening last year and now I'm 3 months no period, so strange. Does anyone think its peri related? I'd love to hear if anyones thyroid swells up on one side..thanks

Yes, it can swell on one side or the other or both. It's nodules which could possibly mean you have Hashimitos if you have not been diagnosed already. It can easily be related to peri thanks to autoimmune issues.

Thanks sabrina,so strange I started last year with acid reflux then it got into my ear tube so ear ringing which I still have, I didnt think anything until I started reading this forum and then no period for 3 months and then I thought wait maybe peri?? Now this one thyroid swollen.. how r u feeling after 9 months no period? So no spotting at all ? I've had nothing

Yes, I had reflux for a few years, and then tinnitus for many years. Both of those have gone, Yay! No spotting or anything. I had been spotting a lot in between periods for a year or so before this stage. I feel a bit empty about not having a period. Don't miss it, but also miss it if you know what I mean! I can't actually believe this is it, and it does seem many women on here get a period after many months so they have to start the 12 month countdown to menopause again.

Yes feeling empty forsure , exactly how I feel. No spotting not even a sign for 3 months,it sounds like your symtoms r the same as mine, so nice to hear there is someone like me, I mean I feel bad for u. Good to know that tinnitus goes away I've had it for a year and reflux too and still have both.. does your thyroid ever go down in size or always like that? Interested your 47 too, I thought we were to young.. also my period the year before was really heavy and strange but now 3 months nothing

We get so much information about starting our periods, but very little about the end of it. There are so many women out there that don't even know about the peri part.

My thyroid went up and down for a while and is somewhat stable right now. I have multiple nodules and have to stick to a diet to keep the autoimmune attacks down. I don't eat gluten, soy, very little dairy, low sugar, and keep away from grains like corn and rice. It's no fun!

Thanks Sandra, I appreciate knowing there are others like me. How did they diagnose that?

They did full panel blood work. My autoimmune antibodies were high. I also had two ultrasounds on my thyroid. Seems my swelling is inflammation.

      Hi Sandra01720,

if your antibodies are high, that could mean you have autoimmune issue.

I have graves disease and Hashimoto’s. Struggled most of my life with only hyperthyroidism issues and only became hypo in periMenopause. I have had a goiter with nodules for almost a year now and even though I take the Synthroid it won’t go away. def hormone related!

Hi andrea, thank u for the info. Interesting I've been on synthroid too for 10 years and now this is swollen, I havnt gone to doctor yet . Does it ever go down? Its my right side. How did it get diagnosed? I'm 47 do you think that's too young ? I appreciate any info.. I hope your feeling better

im 47 also. you need to go to the doctor to get full bloodwork panel on your thyroid. then you get an ultrasound to make sure its your goiter/nodules and not something else like a lymph node. if you are hypothyroid that will most likely explain the goiter. but if your levels are normal they should do a biopsy. its with a needle and they just take out some fluid. not exactly pleasant but better to know.

also when you have the ultrasound they measure the nodules. anything beyond a certain size will warrant a biopsy

One of my friend she got nodule for two years. By accident, she had Canadian red sea cucumber for two months and the nodule disappeared.
