Thyroid tsh test and biotin

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had my tsh tested a few weeks ago as a part of a consultation with a GI doctor (wasn't expecting it) - result was 3.37 - which is within the normal range - but unwittingly I had been taking a-z multivitamins which included biotin - which I have since found out can give false reading on a tsh result. I have a lot of hypothyroid symptoms including bad constipation, constant tiredness, mood swings, dry skin, sore throat, muscle cramps and I've lost half my eyebrows!  - to name a few -I have also found a lump in my neck - I am going to see my GP early next week - I am going to ask for a re-test. Anyone else had this situation???

I had a lot of what seemed like hypothyroid symptoms and also had a goiter. My tsh was 1.3 and and my tpo antibodies were 1300 which was super high. But no treatment was given because my tsh was in normal range. I continued to feel bad and my endocrinologist checked my calcium and my pth (parathyroid hormone) and my calcium was deemed normal at 10.2, but my pth was 50 and for my age which is 51 that was high. Ultimately I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism which means there is a tumor on one or more of the parathyroid glands. This can cause a lot of symptoms in the body and many like hypothyroidism. Please have your doctor check you calcium and your pth level and PLEASE go to parathyroid com and read the information, it may not be this, but these tumors cause a lot of permanent damage if not removed, so it's a good idea to check. Hope this helps.

      Thanks Cris,

Have an appointment tomorrow - so I will ask when I am there. In all honesty will be glad to get the lump checked out more than anything - that's my biggest worry right now.
