Thyroidectomy destroyed my body

Has anyone gone through this? Extreme swelling head to toe. Swollen stomach, very lose bowels, extreme weakness. I've been searching for answers for almost 5 years and numerous doctors cant help me. I had Graves disease for 10 years before they took my thyroid out. It rewined my life! What is the connection with graves and swelling? Any feed back would help my ongoing research.

My name is Shelly and I am a nurse in the USA. I have Hashimoto's Thyroid disease.
Graves and Hashimoto's are both autoimmune. They both come from a family trait.
Now since they took out your thyroid, you must be on a thyroid replacement medication. Many people get swelling from an allergy to Levothyroxine also called Synthroid. Sometimes it can come from what they put in the tablet as fillers.
You may have a corn, maize, or wheat problem. I would ask the pharmacist to give you a printout on the brand of medication you are on, or look it up online if you can.
Now there are many makers of Levo and other pills out there that may be better for you. some other meds are Liotrix a combo of T4 and T3, Liothyronine just T3, and also NDT which is made from a pig's thyroid which is close to a human's. Some of them are Armour Thyroid, Thyroid S.
So if you ever get a rash or swelling where you are not being able to breathe go to your A &E or emergncy room facility.
Keep me posted on how you do,
Shelly

You are so sweet for writing me and I greatly appreciate it. I am on Armour thyroid for the past few years. I did start out with synthroid but it was like toxic to my body. I do feel that I am sensitive to gluten and I am actually getting that test back today. I feel there is some other kind of chemical imbalance going on that noone can figure out. If you have any other advice please let me know. I will try anything.
Love & blessings to you.

I have another thought, in addition to allergies, (and we can develop allergies until the day we die), you can devlop an allergy to a food group at any age. Get tested for Soy, wheat, corn/maize, & sulphites, additives used in food just like Gluten. I have a sulphite allergy and I swell up if I get any, and I can't have wine becuase of it.
Check your adrenal cortisol levels both blood and urine. Cortisol can sometimes go high in thyroid pateints. Also some people find that their immune system goes haywire and Hydrocortisone Tablets for it and it helps to calm it down.
So check into your immune system by seeing a Rheumatologist as they deal with immune system diseases/problems. I would ask for a referal from your GP or IM doctor.
Keep me posted,
XO, Shelly
