I was in good health and I had a stroke while exercising.

My initial MRI was normal but two days later a lacunar infarct appeared on the second MRI.

    My labs were normal

At the tme I had a stroke I had a normal CTA, showing no evidence of stenosis. Because I could find no other cause of stroke I recently had a carotid ultrasound which demonstrates much better detail of the vessel walls and the lumen. The US revealed that I have an ulcerated plaque of my right internal carotid artery at the level of the bifurcation. This is the most common location of plaque, but the fact that it was ulcerated provides the cause of the stroke depite the fact that there was very little stenosis.

You should ask your care provider to order a carotid ultrasound.
