Tietze syndrome and physical activity/exercises

Hi all,

I've had a chest and thoracic back pain for just over a year now and after some investigations (ECG, x-ray, blood test and MRI).and I've been told today that it is a tietze syndrome.

As I regularly do some workouts at home ( pull-up bar, push up, body weight training etc), I enquired the specialist I have been seeing regarding the level of work I am allowed to do.

I was advised that I can do whatever I can as far as I can manage with the pain.

The pain I have is dull, stiff around breastbone, and back, but can be sharper depending on certain posture or movement.

From your experiences, do you think it's wise to continue doing the work out I have been doing? I'm thinking of ristricting some movements like push-up as it directly targets the chest. But I have no unmanageable pain during the exercises.

Would be great to hear your opinions and experiences.

Thanks you!

I just asked the same question on another form! I didn't work out like that, mostly Treadmill and bike! I've noticed that after about 20 mins the pain starts with avengence ... takes me about 20 minutes to get my breathing back to normal ... my pain is also manageable! So I keep going to the Gym

I have had costochondritis for over three years, but I have been able to keep it under control in the past year. Sadly, this means I had to stop doing upper body exercises at the gym. I just do the recumbent bike, the elliptical, and two weight machines for legs. I can use hand-held five or ten-pound weights for biceps and triceps, but nothing else for upper body or I will get pain. It bothers me that I can't do much more upper-body exercise, but it's just not worth it. Good luck!
