tietzes doesn't last long!

Hi all,

I was told several years ago that I had Tietzes when I went to the doctors with what at fist appeared to be a breast lump but this was actually on my rib. This got far worse following a fall at work.Since then I have had no treatment whatsoever despite being backwards and forwards to the doctors with severe pains in my rib, shoulder blades, back and shoulders. The Tietzes has just been 'glossed over' as it were. I am told that Tietzes only lasts a few months'. Has anyone else been brushed off like this?

I am so fed up ewith this condition as it makes me feel like a wimp, always aching and taking painkillers, especially in the cold weather.

Jay.

so this can be a long term thing?

i need something to stop the or control the pain as i have just started a job in a nursing home, which can be stressful and have already had 7 days off because of illness and pains in my chest.

Ive been to see 2 different doctors who told me the same thing and made me feel stupid sitting waiting for 30mins just to be told that then leav with jus a leaflet sad They said theres no point in prescribing pain killers cos they wont work. He told me to look it up online so here i am!

    Hi

I have suffered from Tietzes syndrome for around 9 years. i was told it was caused by a virus and once you have you have it. It was controlled at first for around1 year with Diclofenac and this worked until I got stressed and the pain was unbearable. I had steroid injections in three places in my chest. This seemd to work and when i had an episode coming on i would take diclofenac. Over the past few years however the pain has gradually returned and got worse and dipclofenac didn't seem to wok anymore. Plus there was the side effects reng.al failure, so i had my bloods monitored yearly to watch for any decline. My G.P contacted the rhematologist and they suggested Indomethacin that worked for a while but I found that the inflamation ws spreading and I was losing my voice , breathless and needed oral prednisolone which did work but every few months I needed more prednisolone. I have now been told I have the inflamation in my back which has been there for the last 9months and despite injections 2 and a half weeks ago very little effec. Pain killers like dihydrocodeine ok but did not relieve the pain and couldn't sleep for hallucinations. Due pain clinic tomorrow going to try a tens machine but been told this may affect my work in a hospital as a nurse don't know what else to try in constant pain can't even carry a 2 litre bottle of milk it hurts!

I forgot to say have been using lignocaine patches daily for 12 hours for the last 4 weeks eases the pain but doesn't go away completely. worht trying got them throught the pain clinic.

I've had chest and back pain for 3 months. Doctors said Viral infection, several appointments, antiinflammatories and antibiotics no effect got referred to a specialist chest expert who diagnosed Tietze's and has put me on steriods for two weeks - have only just today started medication. Perhaps you need to ask to be referred.
