Tightness/heaviness in chest/ phlegm... seems to correlate with monthly cycle - anyone else?

Title says it really. Late 40s so also wondering about perimenopause; some changes. After an x-ray, I started to keep a diary of when I noticed these chest symptoms and they largely correlate with cycle. Does anyone else have respiratory issues during their cycle?

I have just started to realise I always get more wheezy when I'm due a period. I've also figured I get a sore throat and tickly cough between ovulation and a period showing up. Can't seem to find anything that helps. But it is quite common, I'm asthmatic but I think it applies to many women.

Interesting, I'll continue to watch it and see if it continues to correlate.

Yes! Sorry if this is happening to you, too. It's a little concerning. I'm assuming your chest x-ray came back as all clear?

I have never needed an inhaler before, until turning 50, and the timing of when I need one is around when ovulation is supposed to happen, then again when my period starts/is supposed to start.

At first it didn't really effect my breathing, didn't really qualify as 'tightness' in my mind... it just felt like I was about to hot flash... that little heated feeling just between my throat and my chest, but instead of flashing then being over, it would just hang around for an hour or two.

Just this fall, I have noticed mucus in the same location when this happens. An asthma rescue inhaler makes it feel less tight, but doesn't take away that warm sensation. If I take a benadryl, the mucus dries up and the sensation goes away after about 15 minutes, so I assume I have become sensitive to something I wasn't allergic to before.

I will say, both my hubs and daughter have had worse eczema/asthma this year than usual, too so maybe is a combination of everything for me, I don't know.

Thank you - interesting, yes, x-ray came back as normal, thank you. I will continue to monitor this.
