Tightrope fixation in ankle

Posted , 1 user is following.

I had a tightrope fixation around 2 years ago, and I am still in a lot of pain, I keep rehabilitating to a certain point then relapsing.  My consultant has now advised that I have impingement of the syndesmosis and inflammation along with some debris bone.  I need to have the ankle joint cleaned and he has suggested he remove the tightropes - he is hoping the 2 years have allowed the stabilisation of the joint and repair.

Has anyone had a tightrope fixation removed (I have two of them) does anyone know anything about removal of tightropes and would recommend this.

i damaged my syndesmosis in a previous injury. even if my ankle remained unstable i was told not to fix it.

i recently reinjured the same ankle,  x-ray and scan resuslts were not very good (12 weeks in long leg cast), but i have been told that the the syndesmosis doesn't look bad.

so i have no experience in rope removal, but i know that the old school surgery consists in a pair of screws that are removed after 3 months.
