My thoughts and prayers are with you John..... post operative discomfort sucks...... but I would call the doctor and or advise nurse and make sure that these are normal post operative sensations....

To be totally honest I think you are being way to optimistic thinking that at 14 years older (you don't say how old) and only 5 days post op that your going to be completely pain free, the knee is positive place to get referred pain, ice the knee, rest it raised up and use your crutches to keep the weight off of it.

    Be a patient patient LOL

John - your knee gets used in the surgery as a point to grab to be able to dislocate your hip joint, I had a perfect hand print on my knee in the days after my first hip surgery, showed the the surgeon, and he gently put his hand on top a day later, and said it fits, I must have hung on tooo tight, we both had a laugh about the bruise, it was a beauty.

Rest rest, and feet up, it will get better.

Pain is a strange animal.  From time to time after my THR, I had knee pain but it went away.  If it persists, ask your doc.

5 months post op I still had pain in the medial aspect of knee of my operated leg. I noticed that when I did a single leg squat on that side my knee pulled inwards. I spoke to my Pilates teacher last week who said it was glute weakness that causes it. She said Clams, squats and single leg squat will strengthen the glute. I have since done those exercises every day and the pain is gone and my knee doesn’t turn inwards now. Take it steady though you have only recently had your op. Best thing I did was go to Pilates at the hospital and then back to my regular class at the gym. It really helps as does aqua fit and yoga. Good luck
