Tin can sound

Hey all...i just had tubes placed in ears and I'm having some issues and looking for reassurance...the tubes were placed last Friday and will not stop draining. I use the antibiotic drops twice a day and my normal nasel sprays to help with allergies. The sound of being in a tin can and underwater is driving me nuts!!..does it go away?..ENT says it will....but.....any help would be appreciated.

Hi Damian, I presume that you have had grommets? These are there to allow the Ear to drain, so at least they are working in that respect. The unpleasant annoyance of sounding like you are under water is frustrating, but whilst you are using the Drops, you are only introducing more fluid into the inner ear. By no means should you stop using the drops because the are fighting the Infection in your Ear (which is also producing more fluid for you to contend with) It's much easier to get shot of the drops that it is to get rid of the Infection, so it's a necessary evil at the moment I'm afraid. How long is the course of drops (usually about 9 Days), once these are done, you can give yourself a chance for the Ear to Drain properly, and get back to its usual routine. Best to keep your Ear as dry as you can and Avoid headphones (or at least Earbuds) for a while. Once you have contended with all of this, you should find yourself getting better, the first sign of this will be your hearing going from the under water sound, to clarity, with the underwater period lasting for less and less as you get better. I hope this helps a little, hope you feel better soon, AL
