Tingling In Foot

Posted , 8 users are following.

I had my hips replaced two months ago and in the past week I've been experiencing lots of tingling and some "pins/needles" feeling in the foot on one side. Also one side still has some swelling and I experience the occasional sharp pain usually in the evenings. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this at 2 months post-op and if this is just part of the healing process? If so, does it eventually go away? My ability to walk has been great but these other symptoms worry me.

Hi I'm also 8 weeks post op . Walking well but still stiff when have been sitting for a while. No tingling but sometimes aches not always when I've done too much. Saw consultant for 8 week follow up who says healing of uncemented socket not yet complete and it's that which causes discomfort. He said I should listen to my body and not attempt too much!!!! Boring!!!! if concerned I was told to get back to him for advice so perhaps you should also.

Not to worry. Both mine were so swollen for weeks that I had to wear my hubby shoes. I have a pressure boot pump purchased om Amazon to help .its simulates & exercise the muscles and helps massage the calf and upper leg. It's two pieces Easy to use and cheap. It really releived the pain and walking helps too! Never ice it and fall asleep. I made that mistake and it actually made the swelling worse.

It will get back to normal in one to two weeks tops. When I finished the RX for blood thinners it got so much better.I was miserable with it and the boot pump used every day releived a lot of pain. I'm 5 weeks out and finally it has resolved itself. All the swelling makes it worse as the swelling recedes so does a lot ot pain and numbness.

Pins & needles eventually resolves itself. If you have any hesitation please call your surgeon.

Soon you will be thru this misery and it will only be a memory as quality of life in the end result we hippies strive for & all the many issues of this THR major surgery is worth the many struggles we go thru to walk with no pain we know is coming soon.

So in a couple of months by spring get out your dancing shoes 👠👠. I have been thru three THR always walk every few hours and I am with your recovery all the way!

    🙌 Hopexxxx👍

Tingling and pins and needles in the foot is often a result of neuropathic pain from the back. It's possible that there's a nerve that has trapped during the operation / recovery period. If it doesn't stop in a couple of weeks, get it checked out. A good masseuse may be able to free it up, or a physiotherapist.

It's not an infallible test, but try this - when it is really tingling away, stand still. Hand on hips, spine straight. Stretch your back backwards as far as you can go without over balancing. Then bend forward as far as you  can go (don't forget the 90 degree rule!). Then stand back up straight. Repeat a couple of times. If that relieves the tingling or pins and needles, it's definitely neuropathic pain from the back. It sometimes doesn't work for some people, which is why it isn't infallible, but it does for most.

Thanks Beth for your reply! I will definitely try your test and I'm thinking I will make an appt. with a massage therapist. I've read sometimes nerves heal themselves, sometimes not. Sure hope mine does!

Hi Kim, I would strongly suggest that you ask your doctor or physio for advise. Please remember that you have had a major operation. It can take over a year to get completely back to normal.Make sure you have a rest each day.If you work don't over do things.Hydrotherapy is also wonderful.regards Amanda

    Hi Kim

I'm just over 12months post op and I still have the pins and needles and sharp shooting pains in my foot.  My foot feels bigger than normal but here doesn't appear to be any swelling.

If I was you I'd get some advice on what it could be. My pain was directly after the op and nobody would listen they kept telling me it was too soon to tell. Eventually I got to see orthopaedic surgeon who sent me or a nerve conduction test.  The results came back saying there was nerve damage and they have told me there is nothing they can do.

im not satisfied with that I'll keep trying to try and find something.  My ability to walk isn't great but I don't use any aids, I keep trying.  I belong to the ramblers society and can't wait to get back walking.

Again it doesn't seem the same thing you are suffering, but it's better to get it checked out. Apparently mine started 55 Years ago when I was involved in a serious Road accident.

i wish you luck, and urge you to see someone about it and hopefully you will get more satisfaction than my.
