I'm in a similar position to you, the burning pain, then the cold and numbness during the day, at night, my feet seem to be back to some sort of normal so I can get some sleep, I'm finding that when I put my trousers on to go out my legs feel really cold especially around my knees, yet when I get home and put my shorts on my legs and knees get back to some sort of normalality, just so very strange

it is definitely strange.. that's crazy you mentioned the cold feeling.. my upper lip and nose sometimes feel extremely cold even when im in doors and per say, not cold in body temperature. also just a few days ago, i wake up with right foot pain when i get out of bed.. so confusing and very strange. have you done anything to help? have you talked with your doc?

I m talking to my doctor all the time, he just does not what to do anymore, I'm going down the surgery route now, spinal cord stimulator or dorsal route I think they call it, just trying to find the right hospital etc

i feel the same, i explained all my nerve issues and she literally doesn't do much, I mean, she ordered labs, but im sure everything is going to come out normal like always. i asked for nero. doc. and she didn't give me a referral.. im so annoyed about it. its like they dont care

If your labs come out normal, take it as a good sign. It think your doctor is doing something for you ordering tests. She will want to see how they come out first before referring you to a specialist. If your tests came back with something that could be fixed with treatment she could give herself, there would be no point in a specialist. Doctors only refer you to a specialist if they can't find the answer via tests or if you don't respond to any treatments.

I think your doctor does care. She is doing everything she can and she is taking it step by step to rule things out. Patiently, wait this process out; it can't be done any faster. Doctors can't do much for neuropathy so you are getting the best that can be done at this stage. My doctor couldn't help me either and would have caused me more problems had I listened to him. This didn't mean he didn't care . He was simply limited in what he could offer me that was suitable for me.

Sounds like nerve damage due to injury. Unfortunately, there is very little that can be done about it other than low dose anti depressants or anti convulsants which can cause more problems than you started with. I have nerve sensations down my leg and into my foot from my back injury and nerve problems in both hands and arms from injuries. Heat treatment works for me and cold temperatures trigger it. Try heat treatment and relaxation therapy or distraction techniques to take your mind off it.

thank you so much for the reply, hmm.. thats interesting, I wonder if this is a lifestyle that I'll have to deal with forever . my anxiety does makes it worse.. and taking my mind off of things is very hard at times. id hate to be on those types of medications.

Neuropathy is a life long condition which can only be managed. The best thing is to have lots of things to keep you busy. I'm constantly aware of my neuralgia but I have plenty of pleasurable things to do such as writing and artwork and so it is easier to live with the dodgy nerve conduction.

hi Pippa, I wanted to update you and ask for your opinion if you can give it.. My doc did blook work and my Vit. D levels are very low. its at 13 and the normal average is 30 and above. she said that vit d levels can cause tingling and other nerve issues. do you have any knowledge on that? thank you in advance for being do helpful

I have heard Vitamin D deficiency can cause tingling and other nerve symptoms. Since this showed up, has she suggested vitamin D supplements to get your levels up?

yes, she put in a RX high dose for Vit. D i haven't started them just yet. I will Monday, as I'm taking antibiotics currently and dont want to over due anything. i forgot to reply to the message where you talked about your doc wanting to put you on meds n stuff.. i dont like doctors like that and i would have immediately changed my provider after that, makes you feel like they don't care, im more of a naturalist as much as possible

Did your doctor tell you to wait until you have finished your antibiotics before starting your Vitamin D supplement or are you waiting because you are unsure yourself about taking them at the same as your antibiotics? If it were me, I would start taking them immediately to get your Vitamin D levels rising as soon as possible so as to treat the tingling. Your doctor knows you are on antibiotics and would not have prescribed Vutamin D supplements at the same time while on another medication if she thought there was a problem with that. Don't be afraid to start your Vitamin D supplements now.

I have a strange metabolism and I have to be very careful even with any natural treatments suggested by chemists or alternative practitioners because my body doesn't always consider them to be natural and often sees them as a harmful invader. Sometimes natural potions do nothing at all to help me. That's why I rely on heat only to help the neuropathy and don't take anything that might cause my immune system to go into attack mode.

wow.. that is rough as it can be extremely annoying sometimes.. I have a question, do you think taking a muscle relaxer would temporarily help? I have a app. with my primary doc today and im going to mention all ive been exercising lately.. some of these could be related to my any, and also maybe from my concussion. Im going to have them run more blood work. for heat therapy, is something i can do in home? or would be a physical therapist for that?

I am not a fan of taking anything for the neuralgia because the medication on offer for it causes all sorts of side effects and often they only reduce the pain rather than getting rid of it entirely. I don't know anything about muscle relaxers. Things I am unsure of, I keep away from. My doctor tried very hard to get me on low dose anti depressants and kept trying to suggest different ones after I refused the first one.One brand was as bad as the other for potential reactions. He was dismissive of my concerns and claimed that patients were just being negative when they complained of side effects from these drugs. I felt this was a very good reason to stay clear of them. I didn't like my doctor's attitude at all.

I find doctors frighten me after getting neuralgia after a blood test so I do heat treatment at home instead . I stand by my radiator or fan heater and also find holding a hot mug of tea against the area really helps. Hot showers are also good for thawing out my numb hand in the morning. When I am in Italy in the summer, I get complete relief with the hot sun, which is the best heat treatment. Although, I live in the sunniest part of Britain, the climate is still variable and not good for neuralgia. Winter temperatures play havoc with my nerve conduction.

Nerve conduction tests are sometimes done to see how the nerves are working/not working. Medications can cause neuralgia and vitamin deficiencies too. Diabetes can also trigger neuropathy.
