Tingling sensation and healing

I'm curious about people's sense of toggling post open CTY surgery.

im two months post open surgery for severe CTS.  Tingling started the day I woke and regained feeling.  Never very intense, but always there.  Doctor told me its a sign of nerve healing.

Also, thenar muscles were atrophied in both hands.  Left came back at about 3 weeks, right (worse CTS), and right after 5 weeks.  Far quicker than I imagined.

Im now at 8 weeks.  Tingling is still there, punctuated by jolts of real pain from time to time.  However, the tingling is disappearing.  I think it will be gone at three months, but it's a complete guess.  I've asked my doctor if there is no tingling, is there still healing.  He has yet get back to me.

i can believe I still have months to go, but I am way better.  Very curious about knowing more about healing and tingling.

if I'm not tingling, am I healing?  Anyone got any in site onto how long it lasted?  We're you still healing if.you were not tingling?

Love to hear your stories.

    Hi

my tingling cleared quite quickly but the unexpected jolts of pain carried on until

about 5 months so you still have plenty of time.

i think recovery is linked to the severity of CTS and how long you had to wait for the op.

Good to hear you are recovering so well.

Were you diagnosed with severe CTS?  How close to "cured" did you get?

I had slight tingling over many years but just thought I was lying on my arms in my sleep and had not heard of CTS. Then I fell and broke my wrist, was in plaster for 6 weeks then the CTS came on with a vengeance in that hand. I was already under the orthopaedic hospital with shoulder problems and just mentioned this tingling and pain to them during a routine visit to out patients. I had the nerve tests and they said it was severe in the right and present in the left. I also had an MRI scan to check the problem was not coming from my neck. These were both done within 2 weeks and I was seen soon after to be told I needed an op. I pestered the poor clerk in the theatre listing dept and had the op. 4 weeks later. I am 7 months post op. And believe I am 100% cured.

      regards Elaine

I had CTS back in 2013 and my hands are still tingling and have numbness in my pointers and thumbs.  I had both hands done at the same time, bad idea.  My dr wants to do another surgery. I am praying for healing, without another surgery

Hi johnny....I was interested in your comment about thenar muscle atrophy.  I have that too in the left hand I just had done on November 7th.  It is encouraging to hear that you muscle power did come back.  As far as the tingling goes...I have had  no healing whatsoever and when tested with the two prong instrument last week at 12 days post op the sensation in my finger4 tips had not improved.  But...pre-op tingling and hand  numbness were gone immediately post op and I am hopeful with time the sensation in my fingertips will also improve. If there's one thing I know and accept about any surgery recovery it's that alot of patience is required !!

BTW...I have just started a new group on FB  called Carpal Tunnel Surgery Recovery. If you're on FB do come and join us ! smile
