Tingling, stinging pain 2 weeks after bunion surgery

I had bunion surgery (first metatarsal cunieform arthrodesis) on my left foot 12 days ago. I was prescribed oxy and ibuprofen which I took for 6 days. Then was proscribed tramadol and ibuprofen which I had nearly completely weabed mysrlf off of. By day 9 I was only taking 1-2 doses instead of 4. I am not allowed to put any weight on my foot. I get around using an iwalk2.0 and haven't had any issues. On the night of day 9 I nearly fell and accidentally started to put weight on my foot--it wasn't much because as soon as I felt it I lifted my foot and managed to catch myself. On day 10 I was in the least amount of pain yet. So I didn't take any pain medication until 8:30pm. But the last 2 days the pain has been getting worse. But it is a different kind of pain. It's like a tingling of pins and needles with occasional sharp pains. I'm not sure if it is just normal pains that come along with healing (of bones or incisions) or if I should be concerned. Is this normal?

    Hi Sarah

This type of pain, and pain like someone is stabbing with a needle, is the nerves repairing. I think it's hideous, sometimes it takes your breath. However it doesn't last long and it is possible sometimes to breath through it.

If it gets really bad you might need drugs specifically for nerve pain. Ibuprofen etc don't have any effect.

    Good luck.
