Tinnitus

I'm in week 7 of sertraline, 100mg for 3 weeks, for most part feel really good, but my anxiety caused tinnitus and today it sounds like someone left the phone off the hook in my head, ears are sounding like a ring tone, has anyone else dealt with tinnitus, how long before it stops, or is it permanent, any advice? Took 1/2 MG of xanax early, but not helping.

Hi Tim, I’m glad you’re doing well. Having been on and off this med for about 2 decades, yes, I have had this condition many, many times. It comes and goes. It always bothers me initially but then I try to focus on other things and not let it bother me too much and it goes away eventually. If it really bothers you, try to hold your nostrils with two fingers and breathe out. If that doesn’t work, try listening to music. Or have some background noise on, like white noise, like a fan or a humidifier. I have my humidifier. It should go away. I hope it helps.

Thank you for your reply, Im doing all those things except holding nose I'll try that. What kind of time frame on going away, I've been dealing with this for about 10 weeks now, doctors say my anxiety caused it but I feel so much better, so why hasn't it gone away?

Tim, mine lasted only hours or days, but not weeks, so I’m sorry to hear you’re suffering that. However, I did have really horrible neck stiffness as a side effect for more than 2 months! It was so bad I couldn’t move my neck. But even my neck stiffness subsided and I restarted on this med back on Nov 19. Oh, when you squeeze your nose and breathe out, push out hard, like you’re trying to “pop” your ears. The goal is to change the pressure of your ears.
