Tinnitus in left ear only

Hi there
I have had tinnitus in my left ear since last year and it has become louder/more noticeable. it is quite high pitched and constant. Never wavers or goes away.
Went to ENT and hearing test shows slight hearing loss in left ear also. I can hear for phone calls but I've noticed I find it hard to make out what people are saying if there is a lot of noise.
i have also had periods of lightheadedness and slight dizziness but I wouldn't go so far as to call this classic vertigo, more a spaced out feeling.
I also get regular headaches but not sure if these are connected. ENT is sending me for an MRI to rule out an acoustic neuroma. I'm pretty freaked out as I feel all my symptoms point to this.
Anyone with similar symptoms found another cit use??

I exactly have the same problem as yours. I have been having this problem since last five years. I was fine for the.last one years and then started two months ago. I have tinnitus and sort of swaying kind of feeling. Betaserc and Dizzlin hardly have any effect on me. I have already gone through the MRI scan for my brain and doctor had ruled out any problem in the ear: Tired of all the medications, I went for Chinese acupuncture. The doctor checked my pulse and said the problem is not from the ear. In Chinese acupuncture treatment they have classified different parts of the body with different kind of channels. The fictitious said I have problem with my kidney channel which is causing tinnitus and vertigo. He said it can also cause lower back problem. I have all these symptoms. Now I am going through treatment with the Chinese doctor. It's a combination of acupuncture, special massage for stomach and Chinese herbal medicine. I can see some impriovement. I have completed one month of treatment. Since my organization berm is Chronic, looks like I have to go through the treatment for about 3 months. The doctor says, no point treating only the ear and the problem has to be addressed from the source. In my case, stomach is the source of all problems.

Hi I'm Anne I live in dublin. I suffer with sinus infections so when I first got the Tinnitus in my ear I thought it was because of that. That was in July 2016. I thought it would go away so in November I went back to my doc who said it should be gone by now so he referred me to ent. When I got my appointment in January they did a hearing test and said my hearing bad in right ringing ear. They said I wouldn't get the hearing I lost back. But I can still hear fine. I tune it out other than going to bed. They then sent me for MRI which was all okay. After that I mentioned to doc my head does feel funny like I'm going to pass out it goes kinda fuzzy. So he got me to do a few simple balancing tests. U know where u see it on tv wHere people have to do a sober test walk in a straight line Anyways I couldn't so next step was to go for a balanced test. To cut a long story short of the in ands outs of test. They put air in your hears and you should react to it you feel dizzy. But in my Tinnituns ear there was no reaction. So instantly I knew something up with my ear. They called me in last week and said I had Ménière's disease which is to do with the inner ear. He explained it to me. Said I had to stop eating salt. Stop smoking and stop doinking alcohol and coffee. When he said that first thing I wanted was a smoke. And when he was explaining the meds for my dizzy spells I didn't hear a word of it cause all I heard was I have to sop drinking. I don't go out a lot but when I do I love socialising with a few drinks. So if u feel dizzy I recommend u ask for balancing test they found out a lot for my case by doing it. He said majority of times they find nothing so it might be good to rule out certain thinBut I have ringing almost a year now and it hasn't gotten any worse. If I go out the next day the tinnitus will be louder but it calms down again. ENT really did a lot for me. Hope this helps.

Hello there Finlay I've read numerous comments about left ear tinnitus. As I too am suffering very badly from it but I also have severe stomach issues, severe arthrits, my anxiety is pretty bad, and I have severe insomnia with small circular lesions or sores all over my skin too. Turns out what I have is a t. whipplei infection that's causing it all. For whatever reason it predominantly affects the left side of your body. This also gave me dysautonomia. If you start having mental, confusion, memory issues, and frequent headaches with the left ear tinnitus then you should be checked for this as well. Read the story of the 62 yr old mechanic who had whipples disease it's a really good case study. I'm sure no one would ever think of this it causes bad arthritis and alot of chronic inflammation throughout the body as well and can affect your eyes too.

Many thanks & sorry for my late reply. I went to the doctor and asked for my ears to be cleaned I hear the buzzing all the time. After my ears were cleaned I didn't notice the buzzing. I don't know what happened. I go to boot sales and often ask people to repeat things but often can’t hear properly so they get annoyed and I walk on. I understand it does affect your intelligence as well. I often have conversations and cant here them so nod in acceptance but don’t know what im nooding to. I try to remember to ask but have to keep asking so they get annoyed with me. I had an accident in 1982 my father said he could not hear the same side so it could be related. Could be accident related perhaps he gave blood. It’s what your used to. Think it does affect my thinking & very often can’t have a conversation. Doctors won’t do anything they Don’t believe me. what can I do please advise. I live in UK.

Hi I sympathise with you. For seven weeks I have what GP calls ETD blocked feeling low grade ear pain difficulty hearing just as you describe, plus the constant 24hrs ringing tinnitus. Have steroid nasal spray GP has said if not better by 12 weeks will refer as guidelines for MRI rule out acoustic nuroma. TBH these things are pretty rare but more prevalent when tinnitus is unilateral mine is right sided. Im not too worried about that but oh boy if anyone can help stop the ringing please please message.

I'm in the exact same situation. Tinnitus in left ear only. Accompanied by intermittent headaches and what feels like some pressure in different parts of my head. I am going in for the w/ w/out contrast MRI (Open because I could not take the closed one) on Tuesday, July-6. I'm pretty freaked out too. 58 year old man and healthy, other than I take lisinoprol for blood pressure, Flomax for prostate. My PCP had me go off the Flomax saying that it could have something to do with the headaches. But I restarted it cuz too many wake up calls, ugh...
