Tinnitus started in one ear now is in both/Loud sounds freak me out

Hi there, so I started experiencing tinnitus 7 months ago.  The first experience I had was horrible, I got up suddenly to this loud, low rumbling in my ears like wind or water rushing through. It happened a few times since then and about a month ago it’s now in my left ear as well! I’m freaking out and both ears now are constantly ringing (sounds like crickets) ENT said it’s ménières but I don’t get the vertigo symptoms like ppl describe. I went to er freaking out a couple weeks ago, got a CT done and came back normal. It was never this bad and I feel like it’s getting worse. I also feel like I have water coming out of my ears sometimes (even tho there’s nothing). This loud thumping/wind sound usually only happens when I’m super tired or falling asleep lying down but the ringing is 24/7. Lots of pressure and fullness as well. Help! Anyone else experience something similar? My anxiety has been bad from this 😞 thank you for the help

Hi Ashley -I too started this ringing about 2 mo TVs who.  Happened following viral flu.  My ears feel full too and I have been to clinic several times.  They say I have fluid in my ears.  They prescribed a nasal spray but I still have the ringing - some days louder than ever.  Clinic docs say it may or may not go away and this had me very worried.  Have an appointment next week with my family doc and want to see ENT specialist and audiologist.  Hopefully I can get those referrals but no idea how quickly I can get in to see someone.  Worried the longer this goes on the more damage it does .    Good luck - hope you get some relief.  I have tried a few home remedies like apple cider vinegar and neti pot but so far nothing helps.

Hi, my tinnitus started 23 years ago, early stages a bit like a jet engine, I thought how can you live with this, then noises like heaps of dinner plates crashing down, but for years now a sort swishing crackling wind type noise, tinnitus is all about mindset you have to try to ignore it, I know easier said than done, over time you do get habituated to it, but at times it does get on your nerves, try to keep distracted from it.

Yes I experienced something similar 2 years ago. It started in my right ear then shortly after my left ear started ringing as well. I experienced fullness, ear pain, sensitivity to sounds, itchy ear etc. I waited 6 months to go to ENT bc I was told it could be fluid. I took a hearing test and they said I have otosclerosis. Now that is just my experience. The tinnitus gets better as time goes on. I took steroids one time from the ENT, and I could’ve swore it dropped the ringing down a few decibels.

Have some patience and keep visiting the ENT. Tinnitus isn’t a disease in itself but is usually the result of an underlying issue.
