Hello i'm 17 yo female. i just found a tiny bump on the roof of my mouth and was searching for articles saying what it was and some said it might be oral cancer. im really freaking out about that and doubled checked the symptoms as they don't match up and i know i should see a dentist but i'm really scared to do that and i have no idea what else i could do to get over the fear and actually have it checked out. can someone help me out with this? please? thankyou.

    Hi sherlockmisha,

Is the tiny lump a different color to the rest of your mouth?

When you state tiny, roughly what size would you say it was in millimetres?

Just because it is a lump does not inevitably mean it is mouth cancer. You are very young, so it lowers the chances of mouth cancer.

Do you smoke, or ever smoked?

There is a lot of questions, that require answers - obviously, a dentist could tell you more, unless you are trying to avoid the cost, which in some cases can be avoided, but in others you may need surgery.

If you are 17 and live in the UK, and still in further education you do not need to pay for treatment. It all depends on what you are studying.

    Regards,

    Les.

The bump was the same color as the roof of my mouth and it was hardly under 2 mm. Also i don't live in the UK. Im from New Zealand and we do have some services for under 18 students so the costs we're not a problem. Just the thought of the dentist telling me otherwise was. And I've never smoked. Thanks for the information. smile

little update on the bump. its kind of pinkish white and is a bit sore. two of my close friends told me its an abscess and it may go away in a few days but if it doesn't go away in 2 weeks i can start panicking?

Abscess is like an gum boil .. Have you ate some hot or anything within the past week or two ? that type of thing can happen whenever you eat food extremely hot it burns your mouth wise ..,

Don't panic ... Does the bump hurt any ?

The way you are describing it is like abscess which is a gum boil type of situation.

actually i did burn my mouth last week. the boil is not on the gums but kind of near to it and it has mild aches sometimes. also it sort of disappears in the night and reappears in the morning.
