Tiny hard lump on top of shoulder

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hello,

28 year old male. Suffering from health anxiety for a while now. Been feeling fine and well, however I have recently discovered a tiny little lump on the tip of my left shoulder. It is somewhat hard, smaller than a pea, can be moved around and the skin around it looks slightly bruised/discoloured. I have already been to the doctors for other issues these past few weeks I don't really want to pester them again. I sometimes feel like the boy who cried wolf. Any support or suggestions as to what this can be?

Thank you in advance.

You have physical symptoms so should see the doctor. Has anything been rubbing the area? It could be a harmless skin tag. Maybe ask a friend to look at it in case it becomes an issue

Without having seen it, I would think that this is a bursa. They are not dangerous. However, since it is something new, it is imperative that you see your doctor for a correct diagnosis. Never mind that you've seen them a lot lately!

Please, if your doctor makes you feel that you're pestering her/him, it's time to get a new doctor. I'm a nurse, and I've changed GPs once or twice in my mis-spent life.

You're rather young to haave a bursa, but I'm almost sixty and I've some on both kneecaps. They're only a problem if they become infected or inflamed or painful.

Besides, it might be something else entirely!

Summon up your courage and get it looked at, please. Oh, and as a matter of interest, will you let me know what they say?

    All the best from \Tess

Hi Tess3305, you seem to know a lot about some things being a nurse n all.

I turned 29 a week ago, female who had a big anxiety attack at the end of last yr. It's been almost 7mnths now and still I don't feel normal. A lot of the symptoms I had at the onset are gone like the dizzyness, nausea and arm numbness. However I haven't felt the same since, my hypochondria won't go away as I worry I have a serious desease everyday. I only feel ok when I'm busy/distracted. I feel pain in my legs sometimes, random pain other places that goes away after a minute or so. Head rushes are still here as well as thoughts I can't control as well as worrying. These days my armpits ache a little more so when I poke under there trying to feel for lumps which I can't find.

My hypochondria is centered around various forms of cancers, not heart trouble like most people. My anxiety started with intense left side chest pain which I still feel a twinge of every now&then.

Haven't gone back to the docs since the the 1st attack sent me to hospital and I'm not on meds either. I did donate blood 2months ago which they accepted n told me to donate again soon....I'm guessing if I had any kind of cancer some abnormalities would have shown up in the blood I donated.

Some days I feel fine, other days I dont. I always feel awful when I wake up as my jaws hurt from clenching my teeth. Sometimes I get itchy or just go into a blind panic whenever the leg pain get bad.

I know this is very long but I moved to a new country n haven't been to see a doc since my 1st attack. Do u think a simple blood test/physical would help put my mind at ease? P.S I've been depressed since I was 12 and I've had terrible luck with relationships, lots of heartbreak&rejection n I'm pretty much stressed most of the time. Any advice?

      Hi Natalie,

It sounds like you have severe anxiety disorder. People with this problem have many manifestations of strange sensations which then disappear, just as you describe.

Do, please go to a doctor and explain how you're feeling. You will then get a complete physical examination and blood tests. Your doctor (I hope) will recommend a good therapist for you, and may start you on some medication to lessen the anxiety.

However, you gace blood recently and you're right - they wouldn't want you to come back if they found anything bad wrong with you. Also, if they had, they would have told you. They have a duty of care to blood donors so they have to tell you if they find anything wrong.

My experience tells me that this is a hard illness to beat. Once you've seen the doctor and had blood tests done, you'll wonder if they missed something....and that is where the therapy is vital.

You're right - most people with this disorder think they have heart problems and the rest think they have brain tumours. You have a fear of cancer- any cancer.

Please stay in touch with me and tell me what the doctor said to you,

      love Tess

Thank you so much, since I'm in a new country (came from the Caribbean to the states)I don't yet have insurance. But I do plan to go to one of those urgent care/walk in facilities and pay to have a physical/blood test done.

I've read enough to know that if they find nothing medically wrong with me i'll only be reassured for a short while. Then I'll start wondering if they missed something because it happens all the time etc. I have a feeling I will need therapy, thank you again and I will be in touch.

it is probably a cyst but it would be worth having the Dr looking at it in case it is something worse.

    Maybe a cyst?

Cysts are soft and they don't move around in the way Quartz is describing, but whatever it is, he needs to see his doctor. Not trying to be a clever clogs, Lee aand Richard.

Oh dear - now he'll come back to this thread and tell us it was a cyst lol I shall have to eat my hat.................

Perhaps it's a ganglion, I had a small one on my hand. Had it removed 11 years ago, it was painless and moved around when poked.

Hhumm lol i have had a hard cyst on the top of my head since i was a teen. Does not move and hard as a rock. Xx and yes,it was diagnosed.

I'm going to have to give up my medical practice by the look of things.

      None of which helps Quartz!!!

Please go and have whatever it is on your shoulder looked at ny a doctor. We can speculate on line but a doctor needs to SEE this, ok? And please let us know what the doc said!  Good luck.    love (ex) Dr. Tess.
