Tips for acid reflux?

Does anyone have any alternative ideas for dealing with acid reflux?

I’m already excercising a lot and eating reasonably healthy and avoiding crappy foods. I’ve taken lanzoprozole and this doesn’t seem to have much effect

Jamie, what is the reason for acid reflux? Anxiety related or maybe caused by food? If food, have you ever tried to eliminate white bread? I know this is something that works for my bf, he used suffer from reflux every single day before.

Hi thanks for the reply, I believe it is likely a bit of both.  Always seems worse when I am anxious and I’d probably consider it one of the primary symptoms that do my head in! I don’t actually eat white bread in general to be honest, but I will bare that in mind for future to avoid it!

I spoke to my mum once and what she said is that in my family there is a history of stress getting into our stomach over heart and I am the same (and seems like you are too). You know the way sone people get cardiac problems when under stress? We get stomach problems! Is your reflux an actual acid coming up your throat and heartburn? Or is it burping and acid coming up but without heartburn? Mine is tge second one. Also I would feel sick but never actually get sick...

I was put onto Nexium which is PPI also and with zero effect. In my opinion it is the nerves that wreck the stomach and digestive system and until this is in order, nothing else will really help. I've been there for about 6 weeks, in agony, lost over a stone, zero apetite and until I started feeling mentally better, no meds were working for me really... The only thing I found useful was something called Spasmonal Forte, it relaxes all your intestine, 2 weeks of taking it and I saw the difference (in combination woth counselling etc.). Before those tablets I could feel how hard the wall of my stomach was with my fingers sad but those have helped to relax it. And reflux disappeared then smile

Thank you that’s really helpful, and yes like you mine is more burps but sometimes it feels like something is coming up!

You’re right with the stress, it’s always at its worst when I am stressed. It’s diffiuclt as I’m being encouraged by family to have an endoscopy but that is truely my nightmare! And I think it will likely show nothing as in my mind it really is something that is worse with stress.

Thanks for all your input really appreciate it.

You're welcome smile I am sure you could try some OTC med that relaxes the belly and them them every day for few days at least, firstly they will help your reflux and long term it will help you mentally as your reflux will be fading and it will lift up your spirits as you feel better! wink

I read before stress causes digestive system not to work properly, some have diarrohea while others are constipated. I had the first one for 10 days (!!) and "empty" burps, as in I would burp a LOT but my stomach was empty... other times I had food and acid coming up my throat (gross!). But as soon as my belly relaxed and I felt mentally better it all stopped.

I know what u mean re endoscopy as I had one scheduled and all! But cancelled cause was fixated over getting knocked out ha ha And I did the right thing as there was no need for one! I think you should wait and see if it gets better tbh. Plus med you are on would heal ulcers if this was an issue.. Fingers crossed for you and let me know how you get on!! ?
