Tips for sleeping pre THR op

Any suggestions as to the most comfortable sleeping position pre THR please ?

I don't really have much hip pain unless I lie on the affected hip but my knee (referred pain) can get very sore. Painkillers don't seem to help now and I'm constantly tired.

we probably all did something different and its whatever gets you through the night . Lie on unaffected side with pillow between knees may help but referred pain is a b***h mine was in shins and I tossed and turned all night in pain . one of the easy reasons to get op and sleeping a doddle now .

Good to hear of someone else with referred pain. When I tell people it's my knee and leg that are painful (like sciatica) they seem a bit doubtful.

My op is in the pipeline and I'm almost looking forward to it.

My hip like yours was not as sore as the referred pain that drove me up the walls . When I ran I had a sore shine like someone was tying a tourniquet around my leg and at night excruciating . It was depressing . The MRI showed bone against bone etc and laberal tear etc. The options were to stop running or keep going . My doctor said to keep taking pain killers and keep going as the alternative was not running ,putting on weight and my well being suffering . I appreciate a lot of people are debilitated . I also thought.mine was sciatica . I had my op 25th July 19

Yep, my x ray shows bone on bone, I can hear the clicking sometimes. I've never been a runner but I try to keep active by walking as much as I can. I've actually managed to lose weight as I don't have a great appetite at the moment.

    Hi,

I purchased a thin but firm layer of foam from Dunelm and placed it under the bottom fitted sheet on the mattress. It really made the difference between being pain free (or near to) through the night vs. being unable to sleep for the pain. I even used to take the foam on holiday - it was such a small thing, but very effective.
