Tips to feel more awake?!

Hi there, like many, I am new here smile

I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism about 6 years ago and although I am on levothyroxin, I have never seemed to combat the constant tiredness.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips?

As a dance teacher I am healthy. I don't smoke, I exercise regularly, eat well and drink very little alcohol every now and then yet still wake every morning feeling as though I have had no sleep at all and almost like I have a daily hangover! I struggle with headaches and feeling nauseous from being so tired. I have been to the Doctors so many times and they say they cannot help, it is just how it is....? I don't quite believe that. If the tablets restore the thyroid to it's normal levels, there must be a way to feel more awake?!

Any suggestions welcome...

Hi I' was the same until I increased my dose of levo. I have to fight to get 150 mcg as anything less and I'm too tired to function normally. Maybe you should try a hiigher dose regardless of your TFTs being in the normal range. I believe it's more important to look at how you feel than look at a table of figures.

    good luck

I was initially prescribed 150mcg per day but drs reduced it as they felt the dose was too high. Within weeks work collegues were asking me if I was ok as I became increasingly absent minded and tired at work. I returned to my GP and negotiated a compromise so that on alternate days i take 150mg (the dose I prefer) and 125mg (the dose they prefer). I've now been taking this dose for around 3 years and have had no further complaints from my work collegues. Exercise helps keep up energy levels and I cycle everywhere so that its part of my daily routine. I do have a tendency to dose off on occassion now and again during quiet moments but things are definately better!

    Hi Hayley,

Have you been checked for other causes of tiredness, eg. low iron etc.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 2 years ago. I am on medication and I feel fine when I wake up. I do get sleepy in the early afternoon but suspect that is from lack of sleep as I often stay up till after midnight and usually get up about 6 am in the morning.

Best wishes, hope you find a solution.
