Tiredness...from Sertraline

Hi all.

I've been taking 50mg Sertraline for nearly 2 months for clinical depression.

I'd like to be positive & say "yes the medication is definitely working" I feel so much better than I did before I started,Im in control of my thoughts again smile

But....it's making me feel exhausted in the later part of the day-I just want to sleep. Sleeping has been a huge problem for me (lack of it) but now im constantly tired in the afternoons & that's all i feel like doing.

has anyone else experienced this & does the body adapt to it & the tiredness ease off?or is there any vitamins-supplements I can take to help with it?

Thanks Colin

Hi Colin, I'm on 50mg nearly 5 weeks and im the exact same. I go to bed at night and can't sleep til around 3am then up early. The next day by dinner time I feel like dropping I'm so tired. I'm hoping it passes once my body gets used to the tablets more 😄

I am currently going cold turkey from sertraline.I experienced the same symptoms for nearly two years and seemed to lose any emotion.Sertraline numbed me emotionally and drained me physically.I tried various supplements but was to tired to exercise and shut my self away for two years(not necessarily out of depression).

Nearly four weeks sertraline free has brought me back into the real world and although the side effects are sometimes awful I at least feel alive again.

What you are experiencing may indeed be temporary, sertraline has been beneficial to many.Personally I believe it provides no real answers to coping with depression and merely zombifies a person.Good luck.

    Hi Cathy.

The obvious option would be lots of coffee but from what I have read that's not the best of ideas.im sure someone will have a tip, this site has been a huge help!

Stew...im sorry to hear about your troubles with Sertraline, maybe the drug wasnt the right one for you.everyone is wired up differently.

I don't plan on being on them long term & to be honest I'm no longer hiding from my fears & they are making me smile again, that's a thousand miles forward from the ghost I was starting to hate & become.

I know, I stopped all caffeine drinks about 2 months ago but I'm gonna have t start again if this keeps up lol some days I feel zombie like not real but it's better than feeling a nervous rake I suppose! I was put on them for anxiety as I couldn't even leave the house. 5 weeks and I'm out and about a couple of hours most days so hopefully another few weeks and il b back to normal. I think the not real feeling I get is because I'm so used to being on edge for a long time and when no panic happens it just feels odd lol thanks for you reply

I've just posted about this wondering if it's normal. I've never slept so much since being on these tablets and I still feel exhausted. Three days in row I slept for over 12 hours each day and even then I hadn't the energy to drag myself out of bed. I wake after a good sleep but an hour later I'm back in bed exhausted. I'm a student at University which means I'm either missing my lectures or sleeping during my lectures! Really need a solution!!
