Tiredness & Weight Gain

Hi All,

I was put on Bisoprolol 2.5mg in December 2012, as I told my doctor I felt breathless when walking up slight hills. I have a very slight irregular heartbeat, which after numerous tests they thought could have caused a stroke I had in November 2011. I take sindrome (Spanish Warfrin) 1mg daily, plus cholesterol tablets. I have never suffered with high blood pressure or high cholestrol but understand they are to help prevent another stroke. After reading these comments I realise my tiredness and weight gain could be caused by the bisoprolol which I do not really understand why I am taking, it has not helped me in any way that I can tell, I think I should discuss with my doctor urgently, do you agree? Thanks

Hi, Firstly I would suggest you read the leaflets that are in every box of pills, they will at least explain what they are for and also the likely side effects. It appears that once some one has had a heart attack or a stroke they are given a set amount of drugs that you are expected to take forever.

In my wife's case with my GP and Cardiologists approval we have got rid of some of them, but they are there to help stop a recurrence of the initial problem.

As stated in a previous article regarding Bisoprol, which is a Beta Blocker, try taking at night say with her dinner, so most of the side effects are slept through, also if he agrees reduce the Bisoprol to 1.25 mg, this has made an amazing difference to my wife's life, as she wakes up much earlier and alert , feels less tired during the day without any giddiness and is able to keep awake to watch the late night movies.

Obviously different drugs work differently on every person, talking to a friend who had a stroke a few years ago she has no side effects from Bisoprol.

    Hi,

thanks for your reply. I live in Spain and although my Spanish is not brilliant I can read/translate the instructions, but next time I go to the Dr's I will take a better Spanish speaker to ask my questions.

I think I will try taking the Bisoprol at night as you suggest.

Good Luck to you and your wife.

    Hi Barbara,

As your prescriptions are in Spanish and you have a computer and or / Android / iphone - google a program to translate Spanish to English on your PC or in Play Store look for the Spanish to English App, this should help on words that you do not understand.

    via condios.

    Best wishes Ken.
