Yes maybe that's what you had done too. My op was in December and went well. I will just be glad when I can get over my fears of dislocation etc though . Got to have my other hip replaced too!

That is what I was told by the nurse Shirley, Ceramic head and titanium stem, uncemented.  I did have to have a bone graft too.  I am just 69

I had my right one done on 7th May and have been told that the other one needs doing and will be booked in when I go for my check up on 26th June.  I too am terrified of slipping or falling over or bending down too far!

I had mine done in Jan 15. I think you don't need to worry about dislocating hip now surgeon said its very rare that happens if you are careful good Luck having the other one done you are very brave don't think I want to go through all that again

Oh you had your replacement about three weeks ago Jill! Mine was Dec 11th. Got my 6 month appt with surgeon end of August. Bi think I will be put on waiting list for next hip replacement when I see him that day. I understand your fear re slipping and falling etc. I'm still the same at 5 months post op!

So your replacement was in the new year Ruth. Yes I understand dislocation is very rare but I've been on total hip replacement forum on Facebook for a while now and some people dislocate just through ordinary simple movements! One girl dislocated two days together! Re my next replacement, I won't be as scared as I was with the other but naturally I'm not looking forward to it either. My op only took 3/4hr. I was wide awake throughout. I've got a fear of being put to sleep so being awake was "Easier".

I have looked up the statistic's of dislocation in uk and out of 10.500 peoplewho had THR 3.20 % (336) have dislocated their hip. that's encouraging isn't it?

To be honest I don't know what I had.  I suspect the stem is titanium as I have been given a card to show at airports with a little picture on it showing what I have had, just in case I set any alarms off.  It all looks like titanium to me, but as I never thought to ask (duh!) and was never told, so I don't really know.  Anyway, I had my op in December too, so I don't think we need fear dislocation now.  Saying that just don't do anything daft!  I was 71 then.

I won't be doing anything daft Barbara, though having said that, some people on the Facebook forum have dislocated from simple normal movements! Thankfully those things are rare though.

    Hi Ruth,

I am 70 and have just 1 affected hip, total replacement in mid April.  Mine was all titanium, cemented.  No reason given, other than it was the surgeon's preference. I live in the south of England.  I have asked other people similar age group. most said ceramic.
