TKR 5 months ago. Now need to wear a patella brace..maybe more surgery

I just returned from an appointment with my surgeon and my knee cap is on the side of my knee. He had problems with the knee cap during surgery but said he had centered it. I have not been able to lift the leg and have difficulty getting out of chairs. I have been going to the gym 3 times a week and doing daily quad exercises. I have to get a brace to stabilize the patella and wear it for 3 months and if this doesn't work ...more surgery. Any one else with the same experience?

Morning.I had my RTKR and kneecap done in Oct 2017. I was never happy with it and have struggled to make quads work and knee comfortable despite physio(loads of extra private sessions and hire of tens machine for 4 months). surgeon did admit that I could have an op after a year to sort muscles but wanted to see how good I could get it first.! Had an MUA at 7 months which helped bend. only managed ro leg lift after a year! However last November I fell down stairs when knee gave way. subsequently new consultant authorised loads of tests. Results confirm kneecap was fitted in wrong place and mishaped bone on top which flicks the tendon when I walk or excercise.. he is confident that when he operates ( I'm on waiting list) I will feel loads better and my knee should work better. I am dreading going through another op bit feel that if I want to be comfortable going forward I have no choice.

I hope the brace works, but if not good luck with the surgery. It's still early days.

I would say however, that despite my knee cap problems I am still improving monthly, I have been going to the gym and do classes 5 times a week, horse ride and walk every day and am generally a fit person ( but have not overdone it as have physio and personal trainers monitor me)

I havent improved since about 3 months. However i am still going to the gym and working on my quads daily. with my knee cap in its current position I will never be able to lift my leg. I am a sceptical about the brace for the patella but I will give it a go for 3 months. I am also thinking about changing surgeons as he knew it was a problem before the surgery. At least before surgery even with the knee cap on the side I could lift my leg. Its been a rough 5 months as i also had to have plastic surgery for skin cancer on my nose. I am optimistic that all will work out in the end. I no longer have confidence in my surgeon.
